well, today i got one of those oppertunities,i met bernard mulinex today in jackson ohio and we ran dogs for about 4 hours,it got off to a rough start at first,i locked my keys in the truck and had to pay a locksmith to come unlock the truck,we finally got to go into the field,i ran bandit and jessie with a couple real nice females out of his stock.........
it was very cold and windy,i was very underdressed in sweat pants,t shirt, and a thin sweater, but i toughed it out,and it was well worth it,i tell ya,for a 74 year old man,ol bernard got right in there where he needed to be to really get a good look at my hounds,it was an honor just to run with a true houndsman like bernard, and to know he is interested in breeding my stuff into his kennel really made me feal good,he said he doesnt trial much anymore, but the two females he ran today where top notch, one has a win in akc,and the other has the ability to win in any format, and knowin he is thinking of breeding them to my hounds made my head swell, and he must have been a lil impressed with jessie,he even bought a pup out of him,and she couldnt be in better hands..........
i really enjoy talkin and runnin with guys like bernard,ya know, guys that have been around beagles for longer then i have been alive,i like to listen to the stories these guys have,i have met a few houndsmen like bernard in the past few years, names like bill bredimier, mike kliaber, don hoog, roy noe,art beamer, joe kluzenski, tony eyer just to name a few,and with the recent passing of terry mcbride,i really regret not taking him up on the invite to his home club and his home to run,if i never win another hunt again,i will still remember the stories and info i have gotten from these "gurus" of beagling,so,next time you get an invite to run with people like this, you should take them up on it,life is too short, and the things i have learned, and friendships i have built from the people i have met mean more to me than any trophy in the back room collecting dust
