If you read in the obedience posts, I have a pistol of a pup. I don't quite know how I feel about the shock collars you use, or maybe I just don't think I could um, electrocute my dog

. I DO have one of those high pitched hearing doimifloppys....ya push a button and zap them . Do you think it might do any good? Or should I just beat him senseless?

....

. I'm kidding now. I'll tell ya, me and him are gonna go around and around on this....he sure has a big mouth

I am not sure about the hearing gadgets, but the e-collar (shock collar) if used properly is not inhumane. It would be much harder on the dog to spend a week in the wild because he wanted to chase a deer. If you take time to build a vocabulary between you and your hound stimulation should be minimal. I hate having to zap a dog and give them every chance to avoid it. It is the most direct method of correction that exists. Using the tone feature some collars have as a precurser to the shock conditions the dog to the tone. I rarely have to do anything more than tone a hardheaded hound into listening. There is a book by Vickie Lamb that outlines a training program that can be applied universaly. It is called Hound Training Dynamics and lays out common sense training tips.
