They'll get you every time

Saturday afternoon I went and ran at a spot that a buddy had tipped me on. A great looking spot covered with briars, thickets, one big open field. To top it off the property is owned by the county parks and recreation. I took my big male for a little solo time. We jumped a ton of rabbits. I was ectsatic to have found a public spot covered with rabbits that nobody uses. After running untill dark I left excited about coming back the next day to bring a couple of pups and get them in a bunch of rabbits. As I was leaving there was a guy parked out by my truck when I approached he asked if i killed any, I said no I didnt even have a gun, but I jumped a ton of rabbits. I told him this place was like a dream spot to work my dogs, and I would be back tomorrow to run somemore. He said he was thinking about duck hunting the lake that was on the property in the morning, I told him that I had jumped a couple up off the lake and there were some still sitting on it. I figured the next morning I would sleep in a little, let him kill a few ducks off the lake and then show up about nine and run some bunnies. Well to my disbelief when I showed up about eight thirty this morning this guy is there with about four or five guys unloading a couple dogs going rabbit hunting. I just about came unglued.

I CANT WAIT FOR RABBIT SEASON TO GO OUT!!!!

Honey Holes are kinda like Deer hunting. TOP SECRETE!!!!!!!!!! Don't even show your buddies!! Save them spots!!!

When deer hunting even if you see a huge buck that wouldn't give you a shot or just a couple does say:
"Nope! I didn't see any deer. Just a couple of tweety birds and a turkey."

When rabbit hunting tell them:
"There were deer and coyotes EVERYWhere!!! Coyotes must have come in here and killed every rabbit in the field! I couldn't BEG a rabbit race!!! I had to get my dogs out of there to keep em safe from them yotes!"

By Bluegrasses attitude it was probably him, another standout in the common courtesy department. Although I do like the "offer up false or NO information" response myself. Kurt Robinson

I dont blame him but I guess I have more ethics than that. I know I didnt run home get my decoys out and beat him there the next morning to shoot the few ducks in there. What really bummed me out was that me and pops waited around to go run so as not to mess up his duck hunt.

And Jason if I had to hunt that hard to find a rabbit I would have to get new dogs. Mine think there is supposed to be one every hundred yards sitting in the open.

Happened to me last friday: Guy I had never met in my deer hunting club rode with me, I took my 4-wheeler and dragged his deer out, let him take my truck to the store....all the time he's asking me about my rabbit hounds, saying how he hasn't hunted rabbits in 20 years, would love to come hunting with me.....where was I finding rabbits...........First friday after deer season I go to my prime spot (that I had told him about) and there he is with 3 truckloads of guys with rabbit hounds from 100 miles away who are not even in our club. He looked like he wanted to crawl in a hole with a rabbit when he saw me pulling in but I just wished them luck and headed off to another spot. I went back to the same spot that evening and killed 3.

Stan, perhaps that is the reason...I think its because of the coyotes more than the other hunters...I would LOVE to know where in that area someone killed 50 rabbits...I dont think we have taken that many in a season, but it would be great to know for SURE if that were the case. That place by the way is Ionia Rec Area and its true that the rabbits seem to be down lately. But I have NOT seen a great increase in hunters there either. I cant remember the last time I ran into beaglers there...last rabbit hunter we saw was a guy with his lab trying a little jump shooting. You dont think thats my BEST spot do you????? LOL  If you want, I can take you to that area, but I won't tell ANYONE where it is. BTW Stan, I have hunted I think 3 or 4 times out in Ionia in the last two seasons, ONCE this season. But, if there are any yote hunters here, especially with hounds, please, PLEASE hit that area hard. The coyotes are pretty thick and make running tough.

Oh, LMFAO...I stand corrected.......

I agree then. Drummond is falling victim to overhunting in my opinion. But its not like Drummond is a well kept secret either. However, your point is very valid and you are right.

Bluegrass, maybe its been a learning experience for you, but I know for a fact, in the past, you've touted a certain place in Michigan & posted how great it was and invited guys to meet you there (from all over the country) and then just recently complained you couldn't find any rabbits.

Stan, could you point out which post I said I couldnt find ANY rabbits at Drummond??? We have always had good runs there, I just complained when we lost half the island to hunt on when they groomed the snowmobile trails. Makes me want to get a good sled and hit those areas next year.
