A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Guys, If i kill a rabbit and can't get it up before the dawgs get to it, I have one that will absolutely demolish it in no time flat Any "tricks of the trade" to break him of this
I`ve got two, litter mates, they will inhale a rabbit if I don`t get there first.I quit tryin to figure out what to do,just hurry
sometimes thats pretty hard for an old
Got a six dog TT Trashbreaker Exp, but this particular one does not like it at all. If you bump him, he will start hanging around your feet for the next hour or so. He hunts great until you give him a jolt. He has taken to a deer twice and i rolled him for it - no problems since, but i still dont trust him
I have a six also,I would think that if you used it on a dog with a mouth full of rabbit to often he might not want to run them??? Maybe toning and a few harsh words might work.
I would never shock/tone a hound for doing what he is supposed to do! Maybe you should have made a better shot, waited for more of an opening to shoot the rabbit. My hounds sometimes beat me to the rabbit but that's my tuff luck, it's not their fault. The half eaten rabbit goes for bait for predator control if they hammer it to bad, but it doesn't go to waste. Some hounds can sense a wounded rabbit also and boy do they pick up the pace until..... SQUEEL. Shock Collars over-used will destroy a dogs hunt. Good Hunting, Campbell
I agree with you hare bear,It was just a sugestion ,I never shock mine for mouthin a bunnie,I know a fella in Mi shocks them for any thing and ever thing think maybe he needs that thing put on him.
get a fast hound that retrieves. Honestly, I had a hound once that would not only eat a rabbit completely, he would whip every other hound I owned to do it. I just tried to beat him to them. I would rather have a hound that is that rabbit crazy than the alternative. Sorry I have no good answer.

I also had a rabbit eater but I did what most others tried to do, get to before the beagles did. Not always possible. Seems like scolding a dog for eating the hare would be counter productive and I wouldn't do it. JMO
i have used TT on some of my dogs for trying to eat the rabbit just dont light them up thats why they call them training collars, years ago i would try to get to them first n drop a couple drops of ammonia on the rabbit i broke several beagles from trying to eat them that way they get a snoot full of ammonia they leave it alone n go find another one jb
