Out of curiosity {for a story to be published}, I would like to know how many beagles the average beagler has {avid field trialers & gun hunters}. Thanks to those that participate.

Jim, I'm not your average gun hunter as I don't have enough rabbits to spare. I do harvest a few on some farms at the owners request but that's it.
On the other hand, I do trial as much as possible, always looking for that WORLD BEATER..lol
I'm one of those that have over twenty at this time but I will be moving some by this fall. I try to keep 10- 12 at all times and most are females. That's the reason for so many.

Got 4 with a 5th on the way for this coming season. I'm a gun hunter only

Currently, I have a dozen: 3 pups, 3 "retired" dogs, 2 house dogs (beagles of course) and 4 for trials. All the adults can, will and do get to go hunting. And the pups will this fall. I don't have the heart to shed the old dogs: they've been good to me-and for me- and I'll keep them til they die. Like most trialers, I keep and extra or two around so when the gyps are in heat, I can still trial. And the house beagles make the best pup trainers! They not only teach the young ones how to hunt, track and chase rabbits, they also are very good for helping teach obedience as they handle better than the outside dogs- on most occasions anyway.

I keep 5 or 6 and would love more but I cannot leave any behind when I hunt and I find that this is all I can handle. I hunt everyday so I have to keep my dog numbers in line with my control number on my shock collar.

4-5 All i can do to run them and i like small numbers, If i cant do it with 5 probaly cant with 10

An even six is my goal. Hoping for a couple jump dogs in my pups.

7 runing dogs and 6 pups ,run all of my grown dogs at the same time,pups are four months and am working on


them.Can`t wait till they get old enough to hit the swampers.

right now. 6. with a litter on the way. 6 is my limit so a few will go in the future.

2 rabbit champions and one 10 mnth and I usually solo unless running with someone else

I have 3 females at this time.I like running a trio as it seems to make a nice little pack.They are well matched in speed,style,experience,nose,use of mouth,etc and run real well together.I've never kept more then 6 as that's plenty of dogs for me to get to the woods and care for and do it right.

jim, we have 11 running dogs and 11 pups right now we usually average about 10-12 dogs

Theres a guy were I take my dogs to be started here in Indiana has about 40 beagle and had 60 last year and he really takes good care of them he owns some very old LP dog and they are still breeding he has a lot of trophys
