I have the strangest thing happening here. I have a 4-5 year old female that got into a fight in the kennels 2-3 weeks back and got beat on pretty good....so we brought her in the house to get well. Well in the last few days she has been barking a lot wanting out of her crate like she needs to go outside, but when we let her out of the crate she goes to this area of our house near where she gave birth to her litter a year ago, and she goes into this nesting routine and lays down. SHe becomes very anxious, starts panting and defends her "nest" by chasing the cat off and beating on my old house beagle if they get very close to her. I just dont know what to think about this.

My wife says it is something she has read about happening to dogs....but I just dont get it! WHat do you guys think?

This dog is weird as they come anyway. A very good dog ....but she has these what I call running fits (vet says are seizures) only while running rabbits and it has made me stop running her. I was affraid of killing her they are so severe. I dont know...I am lost as to what to do with this little dog. ANyhow....just thought I would get some opinions from you all.

Randy, I have had females go through false pregnancies. Have milk, etc. but no pupppies. I have no experience with what you are describing. It sounds like some kind of post tramatic stress disorder. If she is becoming a problem I would move her back out to the kennel and kennel her near the other dogs, but by herself. Good luck.

You may want to take what the vet is saying seriously. Since beagles are very prone to epilepsy and it IS genetic. I would be concerned that the pups she produced will pass this on. It really isn't known what triggers the siezures and in your case it may be her running. Just my 2 cents.

I have had my females go through the nesting phase of the false pregnancy. They will even pick up some of their toys and rawhides and put them in their nest...as if they were the puppies. It is very interesting to watch.
