New Taurus Judge on opening day

I have heard mixed reviews on this gun but I took mine out today which is a three inch barrel ultra lite model and killed a couple of bunnies with it. It was great not packing the big heavy shotgun around in the thick serecia grass and briars here in southern Indiana's coal mine reclaim. Of course it doesnt have the range as a shotgun but I killed two with it which was as many as my partner did with his 12 gauge. I was shooting nine shot which wasnt quite enough and I believe limited my range even more. The two I killed were both at probably about 30 feet away when I shot them. I believe I will have to track down some 6 or maybe even 4 shot and see what it does. None the less four bunnies for couple of guys who run those wild and crazy little pack dogs wasnt to bad.

A guy I work with is in the process of putting a TC choke in his Judge, I think it's going to really be something after he gets that finished. My BFR revolver is effective at breaking clays to 40+ yds , currently his Judge isn't able to break a clay beyond 15 yds. After he gets a choke he should be much closer to the BFR or a Contender.

Sorry Fieldking I dont believe there are any rabbits left down this way. I believe they might have all gotten killed off already. ;)
Seriously though there is some pretty good running at the state properties at Glendale and Bluegrass.

As thick as the cover is where I am hunting if I can kill a rabbit out to 15 yards I think my Judge will earn its keep.

Ebag, I went from 4s to 6s in my Contender. Much better. Most of those who use the .410 pistols agree that six shot works best in them. I have the super 16 barrel, though. The 4s may work better in the Judge, but try the 6 shot first. You may find that It is all the improvement you need. I pass up shots past about 25 yards with my Contender unless they are wide open, but that's personal choice. Good luck.

I've had my best luck using #8 magnum shot loads in my Contender w/ a 14" barrel and my BFR revolver , the other thing that I found is it liked 2.5" shells much better than 3" shells.

i guess everyone is different,i like the 4 shot in mine with a 14"barrel.
if the judge has no choke it will pattern inconsistanly-never hit same way twice due to the spinning of wad/shot.if it can be choked with a t/c or any other it would help greatly
good to hear of your sucess with it

the bfr seems to have a heafty price tag at 950.00.comes with a choke tube though, but only 7.5"barrel,after seeing my friends 10"barreled commanche and also contender i can imagine a teriffic muzzle flash/blast.if it can hold a pattern out to 20 yards it may be my next present to myself lol

I don't have a Judge, I purchased the BFR instead because of the choke. A friend from work has the Judge and intends on threading it to take a choke. The BFR is expensive but well worth it in my opinion. If you play with loads on that BFR it has quite a bit more than a 20 yd range

Ive shot the 410 slugs and at about 25 yards you wouldnt want me shooting at you. ;) I dont know what the maximum range is with them but I know what they look like at 25 yards. I also shot some triple ought buck which has three pellets about the size of a 410 slug and shooting them into a bucket of water at 25 yards is pretty impressive. To each their own with handguns but I sure enjoy shooting and carrying my Judge.

how far do you think a regular 410 shotgun will shoot using the same shells #6 2 1/2 just curious im really interested in buying myself a judge but theres so many different opinions about them i got kinda worried i couldt kill nothing unless i was right on top of it jb
