I can not believe this is happening right now. How in the world did he get so sick. He was good. I hunted him the other weekend he was strong hunted all day for me. He was good thru out the week then all the sudden he got sick and worse and worse.

The vet is not sure what is going on. Said one pupil is small and the other is fine said its the brain. Something going wrong in there. He gave him a shot antibacterial that goes to the brain but it can take up to 24hrs and the vet said he probably won't make it till then. I don't know if I should drive over and have him put down or take the chance and see if the shot will work. I seriously don't want to be in this situation right now. I never thought something like this would happen. I'd rather see one of my dogs die from old age rather than this. Guys go out there and pet your dogs and love them up cause you never know when it will end.

Give the Doc a chance, i've seen them do some amazing things, that hound will fight for all he's worth.

I know this is no consolation at this time, but your becoming a houndsman. All the love, work and pride you've put into your hounds and a part of it threatened to be ripped from you and all you can do is cross fingers and hope for the best. Your metal is being tempered, it's never easy but handling it and the will to go on is what determines longevity with hounds.

its just so hard s.r.patch I'm crying like a little kid.

here some pics of him.

He jumped every single rabbit on that tailgate that day and bit the tail off one on a bed jump. I can picture that in my head.

Image

he always liked to retrieve rabbits for me too.

Image

he was always at my side no matter what. every single hunt he was there with me

Very good post Patch! Those of us that have been in the hound world for years have had to deal with this sort of thing many times. It's never easy! IMO, it's what makes us come back for more. Hope it works out for the best Joey.

I had big plans after deer season. December suppose to be a big month for us rabbit hunting. I was going to go all out I had several new farms to hunt too and it aint gonna be the same without him. I need him there with me.

I all Got is a female off him her name is leah. I never got the chance to duplicate him. She looks just like him though and hunts almost just as hard but she's not the same. very close but not the same.

Just spoke to vet 2pm Nov 18th 2009

said he is still in same state. He is laying on his side. He stiffens his legs then relax's them. His eyes look dialated. They gave him a shot of Chloramphenicol which covers a wide variety of things. he said he has seen dogs in this state before and some pull thru with the shot and some don't make it. He said Pistol has a 50/50 chance to pull thru. I'm really hoping the shot helps him I want him back like you have no idea. I asked if I go there if it'll help and he said I don't think the dog knows whats going on he is in a dazed state of mind. Has no clue whats going on. So for now I'll sit and wait and hope he comes thru doc said he'll call me if he gets worse.
