best line control bloodline?? im fed up.

Post by bluecollar beagler »

ok, im about fed up with the two turbo pups ive got...... my little female hunted real hard to start the day. they jumped a rabbit out of a brush pile right in front of us and ran it about 50-60 yards and made a bad lose on it and both my pups decided it was better to turn around run it backwards which inturn got them a shot of #3 on the tritronics... when i done this the female ran up to my buddy and started barking and carrying on like someone beat her... after that she acted stupid and wouldnt hunt the rest of the day for me... she packed in on the next rabbit and ran it until they made a lose and when they were in the check she came blowing by me like someone was chasing her and ran out of sight. a few minutes later she comes back. when my old dog finally lined the track back out and took off with it she sit and watched them take off with it and wouldnt pack up... bad part is, my buddy shot the rabbit right infront of her not 20 feet away and she walks up to it after he shot it and picks it up and walks it back to him and hands it to him... :angryfire: i was not happy...

the male pup has a ton of hunt but acts absolutely stupid on a track... he cant run a straight line on a rabbit, he swings back and forth and does circles and i have never seen a dog act so stupid and out of control in my life... i honestly believe if it wasnt for my old 7 year old grade dog this dog would not stand a chance... when my old dog is trying to run the track the 1 year old pup is trying to get out front and shoving him to the side still attempting to do circles on the track...
needless to say im not happy with either one of these pups today....
i honestly dont know if they will change there habits or not??? i was hoping to get a good gun season under them and decide whether to keep them or not but im not sure i cant stand to keep them that long.... what would you guys do???

my main question though is what bloodline is throwing the best line control and honest mouth..... im tired of having a dog open up way too early... the pups imho are way too mouthy and will open up 5 minutes before the rabbit is up... im looking for an honest mouth and good line control bloodline... i think ive had my fill of these two...

1st of all I agree with you on the Turbo part but 2nd if you keep them stop taking both of them just take 1 with the old dog ,two pups will always pack up and hunt together orwhatever just like 2 kids .take 1 at a time so it will only have the option of goin with the old dog also backtracking is a call for a bullitt. Ranger Dan bloodline if you want hunt and line control.

yeah maybe i used to harsh of words in the last part of that... my frustration level today was pretty high... :( at times i think i am expecting too much but considering the amount of time i have put into these two pups in the past 6 months i would of expected more from them to be honest... they are almost 16months old. this swinging or what i call swarping is a trait ive never had to deal with before... :?: and it irks me pretty bad...

are telling me they will come out of the swinging and circling crap they are doing now??? should i be more patient with them and just try to keep correcting them.... i know this female is probably never going to come out of here problem.. she just continues to get worse each time out. she'll hunt for alittle bit and then just give up or get bored and quit. :bash:

i agree with the seperate them,if you have one thats real pushy to get up front but cant handle it because of another dog-i would just solo that pup.
the term -blown up-is used alot and that sounds like its happening/happened.
good luck though.
one word for control with power=BIG TUNA

the pup i have outta him hasnt blowed up yet,and i have ran him alot with some real strong hounds.i started him solo/kept him solo until he would run his own bunny-now he can do it solo or in a pack-he may push a little to get the front but he can take it a good distance before falling off the line, with a pretty quick recovery.

you guys are probably right....the male pup is wanting out front so bad and he doesnt have what it takes to keep it. i watched him knocking my old dog around to get outfront only to cause the two older dogs to lose the track. it was really agravating to watch. .... the female has alittle better line control and is content to run behind another dog but its like flipping a switch on her if i scold her she is done, she just simply quits hunting and starts acting stupid..... today was one of the worst days ive experienced rabbit hunting in a long time... simply bc i was watching two dogs i had sunk alot of time into simply fall apart and look like crap..... the line control problem is a big issue with me though.... is this something that will come with more age or should he have it down alittle better then this at 16months old?????

When I am running hounds of that age I only run them with 1 dog then I will split them off on their own solo ,ifthey dont show improvement then you might want to move on run them with the good old dog when and if they are doin well then run them solo and gauge their progress .Here at Rabbit Ridge kennels we are fortunate to have some nice offspring that start early and improve .The swinging can be rectified by soloing the dog if they have it in em this will help ,sounds like you have some severe competition problems but with the right dogs on the ground they will improve with ground time ,SOME HAVE IT SOME DONT ,just dont wait too long to decide .Thanks MADCATTER !

Don't run em together and solo when you can.Never shock a young dog when it can smell rabbit. If your female is upset by a scolding that all it should take. And lastly how much control are you used to seeing in a hound? I'm sure these2 will get better, but will it be what you are used too.Did you seeing any hounds with similar breeding run?Good Luck rnb

I like a little of the old cotton tail blood every now and then.Might slow em down a little but helps them buckle down on the line.

What would bother me the most is the opening 5 minutes before the rabbit is jumped.

What are they opening on? Their mothers track? A rabbit? Ghost?

Either of these would get them a bus ticket.

When the female ran to your friend and jumped on his leg and cried out "take me home away from this man" it should of told you something!!
