I hunt hares here in WV probably more than cottontails. Good chases and no briars. I also go to New Hampshire once or twice a year to run hares.

I went up to WV three or four years ago for a two day hunt. We had been to Drummond Island a few weeks before and wanted to chase a few more. We stayed in Davis and hunted in Canaan Valley the first day. The second day, we hunted on Dolly Sods. We ran one hare each day. It's my understanding that the hare are in pockets here and there and it would take some scouting to find them or you would have to have a connection with a local hunter that knew where to find them. I would like to try it again sometime, but would have to have more info on where to hunt.

Across the top of Dolly Sods is a great place to hunt hare! If you get into the laurel thickets, they generally always hold a hare or two.

It looked like good hare habitat. I'll probably try it again sometime. The weekend we were there was the opening of dog training season for bear. It was pretty neat seeing all those bear hounds. We actually had a pack of big hounds run through the area were hunting. We talked to group of bear hunters and they said there were some hare in the area. From what they said, Dolly Sods gets inaccessible after the snow falls.

My buddy lives in Petersburg, and his son runs bear hounds up on the Sods. I know he wasn't allowed to go up there after a certain date for a few years. Seems he got pops truck stuck for a week or so.

I have never been up there, but hear it's a rough place.
