One hour conversation!?
A lot of people on here have probably talked to some of the great beaglers in the past, but I am sure of us like me haven't yet. If you could sit down and have a conversation about dogs with any beagler who would it be??
I would love to sit down with anyone, young or older. I would really like to talk with Dale Larsen and John Monkman at the same time.

Re: One hour conversation!?
I'd say my first pick would be Bill Sawyer (passed away a couple years ago).
He got me into trialing. I use to love listening to all of his stories about past hounds and trials. It would be awesome to hear the old man laugh and tell another one. I really miss that.

Dry Creek Kennel-Bred to get it done where it counts the most "under the gun".

Frank Reese and Tom Dornin.
Expecting a carjacker or rapist or drug pusher to care that his possession or use of a gun is unlawful is like expecting a terrorist to care that his car bomb is taking up two parking spaces

In my limited experience in beagling, I would have to say Ken Lewis from Iowa. Ken is always willing to listen, and offers his real opinion of your dog when asked.

Re: One hour conversation!?
Willis keith from Crothersville Indiana. A man I am sure that none of you have ever heard of. Willis started trialing in 1942. He had the pleasure of running with, agaist and judging dogs like Warfield Red, Pleasant Valley Diplomat (sp ). Willis turned 90 years old this winter and is still running hounds on the same grounds that he has ran on for the past 60 + years. Although he doesn't get around like he used to or wants to, he now runs his dogs from a lawnmower along with his brother in law lawrence Dart who just 91 this summer. Willis has a way of keeping things in perspective, simple. Dogs aren't complicated he likes to say, it's people that find a way to make a mess of things. What a treasure of a person he is, a wealth of information, a great friend, mentor and someone i hope to be just like one day.
Once upon a time, a man asked a girl " Will you marry me?" The girl said " NO." and the guy lived happily ever after and ran his dogs as much as he wanted to.
Re: One hour conversation!?
Bill Scott (deceased) met him once. Very entertaining and straighforward about hounds, good and bad. What a gentleman for the sport of beagling. He had a reputation of never selling a pup. If somone was interested he would give them a pup.
Joe Hanlon-met him once. He and Walter Butler (now deceased) helped two southern guys enjoy a week of running hare and trialing at Upper Hudson Beagle club, some years ago. My hounds all go back to a bitch from his Grimshaw bloodline.
Butch Keene-Never met him but I have enjoyed his stories on hunting Hare, his account of his battle with health issues, his faith, and his outstanding hounds.

This is an excellant thread.... get to hear of some others who admire the same houndsman as I
Tim Hackworth - Woodpont Beagles - I have learned and will continue to learn from his experience.
Tom Dornin - As he set the foundation for many houndsman and Kennels
Daddy Rabbit - he just seemd like the PawPaw that everyone would want, years of experience and stories to tell.
I speak Often with TC (Crewes-n-beagles) and Sally (Oakhill) .... as well as my mentor David Bounds (Barnhollow Beagles)...
but would always enjoy another cup of coffee, some more screaming hounds, and their conversation.
I enjoy visiting with anybody that shares the same desire I have for the sport of beaglin, the love for the hound,
and that persues the betterment of the breed.

Re: One hour conversation!?
I always enjoyed talking to Terry Mcbride, Vast Knowledge and not afraid to point out faults. Had some squabbles with him but i would like to set down and drink coffee with Ron Conroe. John Monkman has always made me think "Hows he do dat" alot. Lots of the boys up north give me hell about dogs but i sure would like to spend a week and show em a thing or two and kill the elusive hare and listen to the swamp races. I sure miss my ol buddy Darvin Mcclean we traveled many a mile together.
I can still hear him saying Mister you got robbed today.I put 2 blue Ribbons in his coffin as he was a big part of finishing Junie, I miss him dearly everyday.
