Guys just wandering are they a way to make my dogs run out a little farther?? Sometimes they hunt a little to close.

This is a new one on me usally the question is they to far does your dogs hunt hard if not you may have to just find a hound that hunts real hard those usally tend to hunt farther out not saying your dogs dont hunt but dont sound kike with that problem they dont hunt hard JMO

I have gotten in the habit of standing and letting them cover ground. We usually walk to good cover or near it(50-75 yards) and
let them get in it on there own instead of sending them in it. It may take some time, but all of mine will hunt now as far as I let them.
Usually no farther than 75-100 at max. Good luck.

Me and a buddy were just talking about this the other day and I will say most hounds that we've seen that hunt out a ways seem to me they cover too much ground too fast...............they leave too many stones unturned so to speak. Now we're hunting cottontails not trying to cut a hare track mind you. One of the dogs that I bought off of another buddy likes to take off to go where she wants to. It has taken me a little time to kind of reel her back in a bit. I don't want to control her but I don't want her to skip town as soon as her feet hit the ground and start barking her first track a 1/2 mile away either..........especially with uncovered ground between me and her. I imagine it can be hard to find a hound that checks everything over well but doesn't spend too much time in a small area or stay too close. JMO
