i've got one female and seems like every year around this time she starts to limp one leg. She holds it up. I let her rest up for a week and she's good to go again. Hunt her a saturday and sunday and by sunday night she holds it up again. I'm thinking its joint related. She is almost 5 yrs old. I look at her paw everytime she does that and I see nothing.

If you find out, let me know. My brother has had one that has done the same thing sense he has owned it. The dog is just three yrs old. He does it evrytime you run him though. It never fells. After about three hours of good running you'll see him favoring it. And by the end of the day he acts like he barely can walk on it. No cuts or anything.

I've got a couple of old dogs that get sore sometimes. My vet told me to give them Ascriptin (buffered asprin), regular asprin is hard on their stomach.Give them 1/2 tablet twice a day for a few days. Seems to help.

I give a couple of mine glucosamine/chondrin tabs one a day per dog and cleared up both of there problems, Had a young male that would go completly lame on a front leg if you pounded him hard for a couple days in a row, I have another that would do it just occasionally but never could figure out why so I tried it on him and no more problem. I would rub all over them and could never get them to act like it hurt so I figure joint pain. The young dog my vet told me I could probably take him off the vitamins and he would be fine he said it was probably a maturity thing. but I keep him on them it is not that expensive.

The glucosamine/chondrin tabs do work. I have used them with my dogs with good success. There is a product called ZOOM that I have heard is good http://www.zoomdog.info/index.htm . Also, a higher protein feed will reduce some injury and help them recooperate faster after a hard days hunt. I feed a 30/20 mix food that gives them plenty of energy and they look great. Hope this helps.

I use a powder called Hip Help. It's glucosimine and creatine. It has a measuring spoon in it and one small scoop treats a 25lb. dog. It's generaly cheaper than pills and you just sprinkle it on there food. They don't mind the taste and it works. Made by Amerivet I think and most farm supply/feed stores carry it. It works! Cost about $12 for a good size container.

dbounds is right on with the hip help.
I have a 2.5 yrar old male that favors his hind right leg EVERY TIME we run. Vets diagnosed Cruciate Ligament... 850.00 to
repair and no guarantee that he would be able to run again. I started the Hip Help regimin and a year later he can keep up with
the big guys!!! He still favors the leg but only for a few hours rather than days... I think it is more imaging at this point, cause
when I go out there he come running to me with full weight on the leg...

Joey this might not be the case but I have a male that will do this sometimes, and when he had a check up at the vet the blood work showed he had lyme disease. that was a couple years ago I discovered this, as long as I dont run his guts out he seems ok. He will shove up some but with enough rest he will be good to go.

After I lost my male dog pistol in december from tick borne illness I had all my dogs checked had all their blood check and its neg and neg for heartworms. She's just done this for the past couple seasons. The front joint hurts from all the running. She's just more sensitive I guess. I've got a few I can run and run and run and nothing phases them. Sure they get a little tired but no sore joints.

Joey... after the diagnosis of torn ACL (Cricuiated Ligament)... I took Twister down south to our life long family vet.
He looked him over... X-rayed... and did what they call the "Drawer" test... he did not agree with the first diagnosis.
He did feel SOME play in the joint... classified it as PERHAPS a defect in the joint. This is why he favors it after heavy
running.

Anyway... get you some hip help... follow the "Bollis" directions and then the maintenance... you will be pleased!!!
I feed it to me "Healthy" (?) hounds... it has creatine which allows for quicker recovery and undurance...
