i dont like the term "hare bloodlines", but for lack of a better term, i need to use it in my question. are there any hare bloodlines that produce excellent conformation, excellent line control, very levelheaded/laid back personality(running style) that works a check close and gradually expands? bloodlines that can walk a rabbit 50 yards or more down a gravel road if needed? thanks lee

I don't believe there are lines of hounds that have that ability and an individual that comes close to that is extremely rare.

All our beagles come from hare hound bloodlines such as Branko and Northway. When we first started out we knew that we wanted bluetick beagles. I like to show at the competition hunts also, so we needed to find some blueticks that were "show quality". After 2 to 3 years of searching now, we have purchased several blueticks that have the hunt and conformation that we are looking for. We currently have 1 GRCH on the bench, 1 CH on the bench and others with show points that haven't championed yet, and various competition hunting titles.
The hare hound bloodlines are not known for conformation. When we started looking for the blueticks with good conformation, it was extremely hard to find them. We are happy with what he have now, and hopefully 3 to 4 generations of our hounds down the road we will have some excellent show quality blueticks! We raised our first litter of pups in 2009, we ended up keeping a male and female out of the litter. They are currently 7 months old, and are doing an excellent job in the field and both have great show quality. One puppy that we sold was entered in its first competition hunt this past Saturday at Sharon, VA. The pup got 3rd in its cast, but it got Best of Breed in the show. I haven't got to see the pup recently, but it must be good looking if it got BOB in the show at 7 months old!
If you too are interested in improving the conformation of the hare hounds, my dad and I would love to help you out! We are a strictly bluetick kennel, with the exception of a tri-color female that was from a blueticked litter, but all our dogs are form hare hound bloodlines. Thanks, Hunter Hall
