Astro topo map questions
I recently purchased the Garmin Astro dog tracking unit. It has worked fantastic. Now I'm interested in purchasing some maps for it. I only hunt in the Michigan area
and was wondering if any of you have actually puchased the maps and used them in the Michigan/U.P. area. How detailed are they, how do you download them into the
unit, where is a good place to purchased them, etc. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very computer savy but would really like more detail
in the areas that I hunt. Do the maps show forest trails and forest roads in the U.P.?

lancer i bought my map card chip eisenhut its just a card that slides into the handheld
Re: Astro topo map questions
I did a Google search and found maps for the Northeast in 24K scale for free, I downloaded them onto a $11 microSD card from Wally World and they look pretty good If you want detail you want to go for the 24K not for the 100K scale.

Re: Astro topo map questions
I got this from another site, enjoy :
I just wanted to let you guys know that
you do not have to pay a dime for garmin
topo maps. I have used this site for years
way before the astro was around. I live in
Arkansas and hunt mostly Arkansas but
the topo's are available for every state.
All you need is your garmin cd loaded on a
computer.
Steps
1. Go to http://www.gpsfiledepot.com
2. Select your topo selection
3. Download your topo selection to folder
or file. Remember file name and location.
4. Load your garmin waypoint cd.
5. Goto file and open file and transfer
to garmin waypoint program.
6. Topo will now be displayed on garmin
program.
7. Transfer topo to sd card.
8. Load sd card in garmin
9. That's it.
Guys you have to highlight the map
by holding the left mouse button
and drag the area that you want
to download. If the map was white and not pink
then you did not download it. Trust me this works.
The maps are much more detailed
than the garmin topo's. I just did not
want people to pay for maps when
they are available for free.

keystone kid---I don't know whether you belong to the 'hunted hare' forum or not under another name, but I think there are alot of people there that would like to have you provide them with the same info. I know that I now have permission from my wife to buy a garmin astro, so when I get it I will want to be able to proceed with topo's as well. thanks. I don't get onto this forum very often, but I'm on the 'hunted hare' forum frequently. thanks
