Overeating?

Hi everyone. I have a question about feeding a beagle. I plan to house mine in a raised kennel. I have seen pics here in the kennel forum with a galvanized feeder attached to the run, and can be filled from the outside. I like the looks of this system for sure. But, I was wondering if overeating could become a problem. Do beagles usually have the restraint to leave some for tomorrow,or eat till it's gone. Thanks a bunch,Rockdog.

I put a feeder on one of my above ground kennels. At the time, I had a couple of dogs that I couldn't keep weight on. Nothing wrong with the dogs, just naturally skinny, like a naturally skinny person. Anyway, over the next few years I used it off and on. I would use it on dogs I wanted to put weight on. ( It didn't work) Some dogs would over eat, most would not. I quit using it completly and ended up taking it off because it really became worthless. Really, the best dogs to use it on are the dogs that take all day to eat. The one's that take a couple of bites and the three hours later take a couple more bites. I also switched from feeding dry to adding water all year long. There really is no reason to have one except that I have thought about using one for a nursing momma.
If I had to do over, I would have never wasted my time with it. It sets in the garage collecting dust.

Hope this helps
Tim

Hounds will eat till they bust. I control daily amount to keep their weight to a running level, if not they would be to heavy and not able to run at peak. Forget self feeders...easy for you, but sucks for the dog.

I have seven dogs All on gravity feeders and the only problem I have had with it is if you house two or more dogs in one kennel they seem to fight more than what they would if they were fed only by me twice a day.
