just wondering what everyone uses to control ticks on their dogs. I'd like to start a good program with my dogs with something that I can apply on their coat that won't break the bank.

any good recommendations. I'd like to start real soon.

I use happy jack products. They have a flea and tick shampoo that i use. Try to give a bath every 2 to 3 weeks. I also use a spray from happy jack called dd-33 i spray it on their coats once a week. U can get both these products pretty cheap it is just a hassle givin them baths every couple of weeks but it seems to work.

Get a box of front line plus for the 100 lb dogs and give 4 tenths of cc between shoulders on top of skin works for a month or more 1 tube will treat about 12 dogs

Make sure you find a nice girl to check you over when you get back too.

Go to your local gardening store and purchase 5% Sevin dust. Use a seasoning bottle that is a shaker and spead on dogs--do not get any in the eyes. Also spread in their bedroom or any place they lay and spread on the ground around their kennel.

I use a vegetable dusting spray pump to spread in bedroom and around pen. Will kill ticks and alot of other pests and will not hurt the dogs. I use it all the time.

Purple Python tags. I cut the ear tab off and wrap it around the collar and zip tie on both ends. I read a post a couple years back and they work great. I also tie one to my belt loop and they keep them off of me.

I like Ivermec (sp) use it as heart worm perventive in the warm mths. I truely belive it helps with fleas & ticks , it & 10% sevin dust in the bedding is all I've ever used and have very little of either critter . 5% sevin is a waste of money IMO , unless your dusting beans

I use twice as much of the 5 % (5x2=10). LOL

I have never had a problem with the 5% and it has always been effective. I am sure the 10 % is effective also. either way, it is effective and as cheap as you can find.

I asked my vet about this last summer and was highly advised against it.

He said this will cause kidney and liver damage. He has nothing to lose as he doesn't sell the flea and tick preventative.

I use Frontline Plus with great results.

with the cow tags your using something designed for a animal the size of a cow so your vet maybe correct

I have been using them for the last 3--4 years with no problems so I will use them again this year. I bend them over and use the tool that you put them in the cattles ear with and clamp them together and just slid the collar through them and so far one tag has lasted a dog all summer and spring summer and fall. The vet may be right about them causing problems but I will continue until I have problems.

I like happy jack kennel dip cut down to use in a spray bottle(dont use pure because its a concentrate) every 10-12 days spray dogs down and this seems to work really good for me,also have used the 7 dust and it works good to. I also started using ivomec last year and it seems to help with flea and tick trouble

I have tried quite a few things with some level of sucess with most of them. The best by far is Frontline plus. Like was said before buy the large dog size and split it. That is what they basicly do at the vet. The biggest advantage to Frontline is it can be used on all ages of dogs. It is safe for pups, pregnant bithces, bithces with pups on them, any stage and it works.
