What do you use to shine up your dog box?

Post by Joeyman »

mine isn't even a year old yet and it looks like a piece of crap. Looks like its dull and build up of gravel dust and water caked on it. I washed it with a sponge and the hose over the weekend and it didn't come very clean.

what i want to know is how you keep from water getting in it. I got water in mine and it smells like something got up in there and died.

Wheel acid will work, but the warnings on wheel acid products say not to apply to aluminum.

I just close all the vents and leave it in the truck when I go through an automatic car wash.
But honestly, it's about 18 years old and a dull silver/gray to begin with (Dan's D-Lux Box) when new, and really don't care if it shines or not. As long as it keeps the hounds safe and out of the weather really all that matters to me.

Don't use any acid based cleaners. They will pit the alum, and result in it being harder and harder to clean and shine. My buddy uses a product on his truck that is made specially for alum bodied trucks. He just sprays it on and hits it with the pressure washer. He has a tri-axel, so it sees all kinds of dirt, gravel, dyed mulch, etc. It comes right off, and leaves a shine like new. I will try to find out from him what the brand name is, but I would say that if you searched truck products you could find something.
