Birds eat bugs and skeeters, might be of help for other pest. Supply them with food and water to keep them out of pens.

birds do eat bugs and mosquitos but they also carry diseases that ant good for your dogs,i know a guy that actually got bird poop in his eye and it screwed his vision up still to date they cant figure out how to fix it, and that has been 3 yrs ago.dont know if that can happen to a dog or not,but i do know they carry alot of diseases so i would try to get rid of them

Alright, your going to think I'm crazy because this is so simple but trust me it will work, I have done this and they will not come back and build a nest. First of all if they have nests nock them down. Next go in the house and get some plastic wal-mart grocery bags and depending on how big the roof is your trying to keep them from building there nests under take the bags one at a time and staple them by the handles or tie them to the roof joices by the handles and let them flap in the breeze where the birds normally try to build there nests and as long as you spread them out to cover the general area they will not try to nest there any more. They will not put a nest near an area where there is a bag flapping in the breeze. Sounds rediculous I know but it works. I have a motion light on my front porch and every year the birds try to build a nest there. I would nock it down 3 to 4 times a year and they would still be building a nest there. Then a friend told me about the plastic bag trick and it works perfect. This spring here they came to build a nest so I pulled it down and tied a bag above the light and they have not been back once. When they are past there nest building stage I take the bag down and put it up again next year. You might want to leave yours up for a while until you figure they are discouraged enough they won't be back and then take them down.

i sure appreciate all the suggestion and really liked the one with concrete but i also don't need them dieing and laying around the yard dead. i had barn swallows once on the front porch and put a black wire out there about the size of your thumb and they stopped building and haven't been back yet. i didn't know if it would work on the sparrows. i'll try that first and maybe the sacks next. they sure creat a miss in the pens.
