Mr. Adam Seger told me Shaker was a hell of a nice dog. Ran a bunny with speed and control. A great snow hound that had a awesome nose and was a excellent jump dog.

I never saw Shaker run, but I owned a male by him that was really nice, BJ's Fudd. Fudd had 2 wins & many places in the AKC Mid-West. Fudd's strong points were his sense of direction & desire to stay and work long, tough checks. I never saw him backtrack or get confused & hit a wrong track & he was very good at sticking with long checks until he found the loss no matter how long it took. Whether these characteristics came from Shaker or his dam, IFC Stoneyhills Tamarack, I don't know, but those were two things that I could count on with Fudd. He also produced nice pups from the 2 litters I raised from him.
Shaker was very popular in Canada as a reproducer & you'll find his name in the pedigrees of many FC's today. He was bred well with FTC McBride's Fly-On Snowflake blood crossed with Branko breeding. The only negative thing I ever heard about him was sometimes he threw offspring with conformation flaws such as bad bites or crooked legs, but the male I owned by him, Fudd had near perfect conformation so whether this was actually common with a lot of Shaker offspring , I'm not sure. There should be a lot of breeders much more familiar with Shaker than me, but I am well pleased with the results I got from breeding to Fudd, a direct son.

As good as Shaker was, I heard another good reason to breed to him was to get his sire (Harper) into your pedigree. Many claim Harper was a better overall dog. Almost every dog out of the Shaker/Harper stuff I've ever seen, I liked. Maybe it is just me, but it seemed like Shaker threw big males and small females. Anybody have any direct experience with that?

shakenbake,

The guy that goes by windsplitters on here use to have a hound by the name of Shakers Ghost Buster and he had a litter a few years ago and I think this would be the nearest litter to Shaker. That litter was out of Shakers Ghost Buster and White Oak Creek Jamin Jesse. Jamin Jesse is out of FC Boone Creek Trimmer and FC Jerrys Sana Brook. Brook goes back to Sock It to Me.

i had a female that was straight out of shaker and was double pacesetter on the bottom and she was medium speed hunted like a birddog lock on run the heck out of a rabbit,13inch open spotted built like a tank over all one of the nicest females i ever owned, only regret she died with kidney failure and never got to breed her while i owned her,but like was posted before heard there were conformation problems with some of shakers pups never personally saw any though

John Mcknight and myself own a female that is double Haunted hills harper on the bottom so its Shaker breed back to his 1/2 sister. her pedigree is as follows.
Sire: Sullivans Go Joe : http://www.beaglepedigree.com/Pro/pp_li ... b=pedigree
Dam: Northbush Kelly : http://www.beaglepedigree.com/Pro/pp_li ... b=pedigree
I have a nice litter out of her and a Ranger Dan male right know.
I also have another young female out of Cedar Beck Oliver and a Daughter of Shaker that is just 7 months old.

Shaker passed away shortly after I bred Burr Oak Angelica to him in 2002. Mark Ross had him at stud. I think there was one more female bred to him but I'm not sure. There are three dogs still alive out of that cross that I know of. Burr Oak Gracie, Burr Oak Bert and Burr Oak Mack. I'm not sure about Burr Oak Shaker. Last I heard he was in Michigan? Larry Perry just sold Burr Oak Bert to a man in Tenn. He still owns Gracie and is going to raise a litter out of her. I still own Burr Oak Mack. At 8 years old he is still a hard hunting dog that generally ends up leading witch ever pack he is hunted with. He is my number # 1 gun dog, my buddy and will be here until he dies.

Shaker was a reproducer, He was owned by Bob Sheridan from ONT CA, We need more people like Bob in Beagling. I went to Bobs a couple times to breed to Shaker, once Bob was nice enought to have Graig Kemler drop him off. Yes he was a nice looking hound. His most noted traits would be size, endurance, be there all day and at the end when it counted most. Remember Shaker like every hound was not perfect, but was as good as it could get as a reproducer. I do know that when doubling up on Shaker with proven hounds I did lose Hunt, and mouth was inconsistant. I good hound to have behind your houndsif for a reason, and not just to have the name there. Call Bob he's honest he owned him and knew him best.

Some of the best crosses to Shaker were the Striker x Shaker crosses (Awful Bawlin).
I have a bitch out of Striker and a bitch out of Squirrel Creek Angie and Shaker.
Squirrel Creek Angie was a daughter of Maravic's blue ninja and has produced some
great hounds.
