Just when you thought you had seen everything. I was running a 17 Mo old Gyp Sunday with three other dogs when. She comes "Flying " out of the brush tail between her legs ears laid back like she had seen a GHOST. These dogs were burnin this rabbit. She ran past me and headed straight for the truck nothing would stop her. She came back to within 20 yards but would not come to me. She took about 2 min to settle down and I managed to get her back with the track. All was fine for 20-30 minutes and here she comes again BACK TO THE TRUCK SCARED as all get out. She stayed with me for 10 or so minutes and back to the chase.

She has never done this before any ideas?????????????

Did you have a shocking collar on her? If so I have heard of some collars malfunctioning and shocking when they are not suppose to.

Had a new trashbreaker system done the same thing....

If the dog acted as though she didn't recognize you when she ran past you, it was 100% no doubt about it, a seziure. This may have lasted 1-5 minutes, although it seems like forever. Sometimes they'll run in a circle around you for a minute.

+1 could of been a running fit is what i call it.

was the dog barking or howling any?

It was not the shock collar I do not run one on her ,I have NEVER seen that kind of seisure BUT I have had others say they have. Temp was in the high 30/low 40's . I did have a GOOD GYP that would have seisures but she went STIFF and Lathargick (?) and would be OK in a few minutes and it might not happen again for weeks. Thanx,

I had a male that would do the same thing, I would say running fit.
I have had dogs have seizures and they just stiffen up, and slobber
from the mouth for a few minutes and then go back to hunting after
about 5 to 10 minutes.

Low blood sugar. Feed her some high energy food when she does that and she will be ok for a while.

Hippy, I had a Female a few years ago that would act the same way from time to time and the vet linked it to her blood sugar dropping to low. After I talked with the vet, I just always made sure she ate the day of the hunt before we hit the field, not much just a hotdog or some jerky or something like that and if we were afield for a while I would feed her something else about three hours later. She never acted this way again after i started doing this. Not sure if this is what is going on with your dog but thought I would throw it out there for ya. Hope it helps...Happy Hunting.

Running fit. I have seen this behavior in young hounds that are being pushed too hard. It is like they lose their minds. The one pup that did it a few times for me, never had another with age. Take some pressure off the young hound and solo or brace her. Good luck.

i had a female do the same thing but she would come to my feet and scream like someone was shocking the heck out of her.. i didnt know what to do at the time. i took the shocking collar off her and she still done it.. it happened 3 times while running her. once at night and twice while hunting. all 3 times while she was young. she's now alittle over 2 years old and has not done it since.

I guess Ive been fortunate. Never had a dog with seisures or suger problems. Seen two inbred dogs that were as fast as they come, but had heart issues that would cause them to quit a hard race and lay down for 5 minutes until their heart adjusted.

I have had a coyote spook the fire out of a dog. They dont recognize who you are and will head for the truck.

The tail between the legs makes me think something spooked her. I wouldnt rule out a coyote. The other dogs may have been too occupied with running the rabbit.

If it happens again, I would look into other causes such as medical.....

The last time I saw that happen was when I lost two of my dogs to wolves. The surviving dog did the same thing like he saw a ghost and left a hot racing track. He tried to get into the car when he came out of the woods. Finally, the chased came to a silenced and then i finally stepped out of the car to see what's going on. I then noticed the surviving dog's hind leg bleeding. By then the other two was already dead.
