What dog food are you feeding??
We have been feeding KennyO's green bag 24/20 out of PA, but our local contact may not be getting any more to sell due to increase in price and hassle. He would go up and get 5 tons at a time and then resell to local folks. Looking for other options. We have fed the Pride stuff and never been impressed. We also fed Purina Hi Pro. Loved it but then it got way to exspensive, and now they dont make it any more from what I have heard. Has any one fed the Southern States Brands. The offer a Complete Sport in 24/20, and a Advanced Sport in 24/20 which is a chicken and rice blend. Looking at that as an options. Price is almost the same as what we have been paying to only .05-.07/pound more for the chicken and rice. Thanks for your help. Brock

I feed Taste of the Wild. By far the best I have ever fed, but its also double the price. If you like Purina, I have heard good reports on Purina One Performance blend. Blue Buffalo is also real good.
If you try to balance the cost with feed that keeps the dogs healthy it will be an ongoing struggle. This topic comes up at least once a month with dogs looking poor as the balance sways to the unhealthy side......
I would encourage people to feed the best they can afford, often times you don't have to feed near as much to keep your dogs looking real good. It will also cut the cost of health problems down the road......

Re: What dog food are you feeding??
Thanks Mybeagles. I have not heard of either of those in our area. I do have access to the Purina Stuff.
I totaly agree with you about balancing cost and dog condition, and I too agree that one should feed the best that they can afford. Our options here in our rural area is verry limited. Looking????????? We are not the only ones here that are in this situation. Our local retailer sold to lots of bear and coon hunters as well as several of us that run beagles. Going to make it tough on some us that are not willing to feed Big Red or Old Roy from walmart. Nothing aginst those that do but I think there is better options out there even in our area. IMO. Brock

FEEDING PURINA ONE LAMB AND RICE
LIKE IT AS MUCH OR BETTER THAN PURINA PRO PLAN
THINKING OF SWITCHING TO BLACK GOLD
JUST BECAUSE I USED TO FEED IT AND THEN IT GOT WHERE I COULDNT GET
IT BUT ITS BECOME AVAILABLE AGAIN TO ME
TRYING TO DECIDE WHICH ONE OF THE TWO TO FEED
BUT RIGHT NOW ITS PURINA ONE LAMB AND RICE
ANY ADVICE ON WHICH ONE YOU WOULD FEED?

I also feed Taste of the Wild. Get mine from Tractor Supply. Dogs love the stuff.

BLACK GOLD
Re: What dog food are you feeding??
I feed 4Health dog food from Tractor Supply, I feed Performance blend in the winter and Chicken/Rice in the summer.
You guys that are feeding Taste of the Wild might want to take a glance at the 4Health food...it seems like the same feed to me, I used to feed TOW food then when Tractor Supply started with the 4Health stuff I checked it out, the nutrition and ingredient lists looked to be the same and it's better priced. I was told by Tractor supply that the 4Health is made by Diamond to the same standards as TOW also, not sure what that's worth but there has been absolutely no downside to the switch. I've been feeding 4Health for over a year and it's been great.

I just switched to Sportmix 26/18 in the blue bag. 24.99 at Tractor Supply. Very impressed. Very good (and not much of) stool. Dogs look great!

Re: What dog food are you feeding??
I was feeding Purina Pro Plan, but the dogs were losing weight even when feeding extra. I've gone back to Sportmix 24/20 for the time being, but I may try Blackgold in the near future.

I feed JOY 24/20. I and the hounds are happy with it. It is only available through a distibuter. If you have a Tractor Supply near you; they carry Diamond which we were happy with also.

Was feeding purina one loved it dogs looked good like i keep them in the house I was getting it at wal mart LOL convientent b/c i just pick it up while i was shopping for myself ...just switched 2 weeks ago to diamond performance chicken and rice 30/20 26.95/40lbs. Purina one lamb and rice was 32.99/37.5lbs I belive its 24/18 ??? is that correct can't remember now. Anyhow I switched ONLY b/c as it got colder I felt like i had to increase the amount to keep weight on the dogs while I've been running just about everyday. You noticed any such luck in you're dogs ? I recommend Purina One to anyone. It's only been 3 weeks, and I need to give it more time but not really likeing the diamond performance chicken and rice as much....I'm gonna give it a month or two before I switch back just to see how it goes, but i will be switching back for sure once it warms up....When i was looking to switch from purina one I was looking into the exclusive brand of dog food it's suppose to be a high quality food with good ingredients, but while i was shopping the exclusive high performance was the same price for 35lbs as diamond chicken and rice was for 40lbs and the indgredients, and percentages were EXACTLY the same so i went with diamond b/c it was 40lbs for the same price as exclusive for 35lbs.
