A good friend of mine had one of his squirrel dogs get bred recently. He was told that their is a shot that will cause her to abort the litter, my wife who is a vet. told him that the shot had been taken off the market about 10 years ago and advised him to have the female spayed. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did your vet say?

My vet said the shot could cause more damage than good.Found this out after I bred Kojack to his Grand mother. Wormed the heck out of her and she didn`t have any pups, worth a try.

It doesn't seem 10 years ago, but there was a shot or pill they could give the bitch to cause her to flush the eggs from her uterus, sort of like that "day after" pill they had going at one time. I think they wanted you to give it to the bitch within 24 or 48 hours after the breeding had occurred.
I thought the bad effect was from the shot to get them to come in season...

The shot was Louatlase (sp) it's what vets give cows to bring them in . I was told it could cause a dog to possibly mess up the heat cycle , even to the point they may not come in again . I alos know some who used it with no side effects , I would not recomend it , just let her have them a do what you got to do .

I know someone who used this shot and the bitch never came in heat again. Dont know if this is a normal side effect. This was years ago.
