Hog rail for whelping box question

Post by BigStrutter »

I am in the process of building my first whelping box/above ground kennel. I got some great ideas from this board and the thing is coming along nicely. I have bought some PVC pipe and fittings to make my hog rail out of cause it seemed the cheapest and easiest. My question is.......... How high up off the floor do you want it and also how far off the wall does it need to be? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ned

I put mine about 3 inches. Just has to be high enough to keep a newborn pup from being laid on.

If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

I used a 1X4, about 4-1/2" off the ground for a pig rail. It has been a few years since I had a litter, but I think I set it high to allow for bedding.
