My female just had pups on the 31st.
Since the night of the 30th, she has only ate about 1/2 cup of dry food.
She has drank water.
I notice the pups are getting fussy, from lack of milk.

Does she need something?
How can I boost her appetite?

Have you tried canned dog food or hot dogs? She may still have a pup in her. Most healthy bitches will return to their normal appetite on the second day after whelping.

Hate to hear that Andy. Only experienced that once. She got a bacterial infection. I lost all but two pups. The sooner the better on bloodwork. Dixie didn't make it. Hope it's nothing. May be upset if she ate all embilical cords....I dunno.

I went and checked on them during my break.
Momma ate about 1 cup of dog food!
I gave her a hot dog and a fish oil tablet.
She's got milk, esp. in the back 4 teats.
I'll keep checking on her.

this has always worked for me.

get a bowl of kibble. Run the faucet with warm water. Put a bit of water in the kibble but not to much. Let it sit for 5 minutes or less so the water soaks in. Set it in front of her. See what she does.

I boil chicken livers and keep them refrigerated and add to the feed a few per feeding. I feed my females twice a day without over doing that. This has worked great for me. The livers are great pure protein, full of fat as well, iron, vitamins and my pups by 3-4 wks are as fat as bear cubs! Good luck!!

Had a female go 3-4 days without eating much. I'd take her temp,
also try chicken brooth. Just get yourself some cheap fatty thighs, boil or presure cook them.
Chicken and noodles for dinner and brooth for the dog.

The last female I also gave her a few parts of fresh raw chicken.

If she wont eat the brooth or raw chicken, she might need to see the vet. Watch for any green discharge.

she most likely has a fever! ck her temp asap! anything above 102 and you have trouble. 200mg of amoxicillan 2x per day will help. just went through this..

I would stay away from dry dog until she gets to eating good again i have had good luck with billjack or go to your slaughter house and get a tube of triump ive had dogs that hasnt eat nothing and down and have that death odor put triump in front of them and they stand to there feet and give a shot of cyodiem along with that and watch her go

rabbitsmoker what is cyodiem have not tried this i use pennicillin when i have one down sometimes works sometimes dont

I always give mine a shot of agricillian after she has whelped to prevent the bitch from getting an infection if she doesn't clean out properly. I would take her tempature to make sure she isn't running a temperature and if she is you need to get her to a vet .

Im not real sure my vet mixes out an antibiotic and something else the vet mixes it and its good and save he said its like given a druggy herion after he has been out 3 or 4 days all i knw is he dont have it he makes it while your there

Thanks for all the help.
The pups were born a week early.
She had 10, and didn't eat or hardly drink for 2 full days.
Tried bottle feeding weak puppies, no luck.
I gave her gravy, wouldn't eat it.
Jammed a fish oil tablet down her throat.
Tried peanut butter, she ate that.
Gave her an antibiotic.
Finally, she started eating dry food but not wet?
She's producing tons of milk now and everything seems ok.
5 pups survived.
