I have had a few hounds and terriers get paralysis before. Best thing you can do is ride it out. This little fella (the terrier) had it so bad the only thing he could move was his eye's for a few weeks, I would take him out every few hours and use a towel as a sling to support him so he could clean out. In a couple months he was back to him old self. When the paralysis gets to their respiratory system is the only time it kills them. Most including my vet have never dealt with or now how, there is no treatment, just have to let it take it's course. One of my old coon hounds had it twice, this little terrier also had it twice and recovered.

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully your fond memories will help to ease the pain in your heart. I recently had to put down one of my dogs. The decision is never easy but somehow we seem to know when it is time. Cherish the memories and imagine him in the eternal "happy hunting grounds" no longer in pain.
