Stud choice.

Post by Casey Harner »

If you could take your favorite bitch of your kennel to one selected sire of your choosing which sire would it be. Right now I would pick Durbin Valley Hitman. The reason being would be due to the amount of nice dogs I have seen out of him. I like that he throws Hard hunting, tons of nose jump dogs.I have a double bred Hitman pup.

Mike Eberles, Hammer'inPatch Gunner.

I have a two year old female out of him that is a very good hound. Good hunt, good nose, and good foot with line control.
She has never taken off game, even when jumping a deer right in front of her, she looks and goes right back to hunting rabbits.

I have a litter out of him that is 1 year old, I have very good reports from all.
The one I kept is almost a clone to the one above except she has excellent hunt and seems to be a little quicker. She has never taken a deer either even with jumping one right in front of her, she goes right back to hunting rabbits also. She seems to have a good nose, but the test will be this winter.

The above hounds are from two different mothers, which are very good hounds themselves, but both are sired by Gunner.

I don't think anyone (Patch guys) would go wrong with breeding to Gunner.

I think if your trying to line breed a certain blood or trait it would be a little different possibly, but I have been seeing a few nice dogs out of FC Pinnacle Hills Sport!

Ranger Dan has produced more dogs I would have liked to own than any other. Now that he is gone if I was going to breed one of my gyps it would be to FC JR's Top Gun Tyke (Ranger Dan X Blackies First Prize).

I own 4 dogs; a female out of Green Bay Shooter (Ranger Dan). a female out of FC Honey Hollow Elvis (Ranger Dan) and I just purchased a female pup from Ohiohtr out of FC Green Bay Nemaskets Singer who is grand daughter to Ranger Dan. The 4th is inbred Gramppy and I like her.

They dont all make good ones, Ive culled a bunch, but Ive been pretty happy with that line. Solid hunt, nose, desire, and inteligence.

Tyke has produced some nice ones in limited breedings. Have one off him and she is a nice little dog and doing real well for a 2yr old. Tyke would be on my short list as well. I have owned 2 out of him and know of a couple others that are pretty good dogs as well.
