DC40 and TT

I'm all setup to get my Garmin here directly and was just curious as to the best ways you guys like to run the collars on your dogs. I've heard guys say the TT can fit on the DC40 strap but I can't imagine that gives much room.

If you do this, does the shocker still end up on a good spot on the dogs neck and does the Garmin's antenna still point in the right direction or does it matter?

If you run both straps I would assume it'd be best to put the DC40 behind the TT (towards the dogs butt)?

I just can't believe a guy that runs a 13 inch dog or under has room to fit all these electronics on the dogs neck comfortably.

Thanks for ideas.

We just run two seperate collars . Most of our dogs are 15 inch and it hasn't been a problem. I put the Garmin behind the Tri-tronics.

Did you go with the new Astro 320???

I got mine last week and it was worth the wait.

Get the bird's eye view satellite Imagery . It's only $29 a year but well worth it. Any area you load on the 320 is yours ( even if it's over a year). It took me a little time to figure out how to load the maps but now it's a piece of cake. I used a map card on the Astro 220 all Summer and can tell you the birds eye on the 320 blows it out of the water.

The only thing I question is the extra range they say the 320 has. From what I have seen it's about the same as the Astro 220.

I will defintely get Bird's eye soon as I get the unit. That's one of the main reasons I bought the 320.

My dogs hunt pretty close, the cottontails around home don't run real big, and the dogs are broke so hopefully i dont need too much range. However the one big reason I got it is for hare hunting up north so I guess that'll be the test. We had some enormous circles last year. What kind of range have you been seeing in brushy, woods, hill territory if you have that?

The range that I'm seeing in my area (some small hills and bottoms). I've set a collar on the ground and drove off and this is what I've seen.

Standard Ant. ( About only 2 miles)

Long Range Ant. that comes with the 320 (About 3 miles)

Roof Top Magnetic Ant . ( I've had good signal at over 4 miles)

A funny story about the bird eye. I was running the other day and the dogs kept making a big circle and then crossing a 5 foot wide creek. I zoomed in the exact spot with the birds eye and then walked to the spot, the garmin kept logging where the rabbit/dogs were crossing. Sure enough, here comes the rabbit and he crossed in the same area. Sure, I "mite" have been able to come close just by ear but it was nice to be waiting on the rabbit in the exact spot when he got there again. It was funny to me.

If Joeyman gets a hold of one of these ....there won't be a rabbit left in Missouri. :P

I went to the Garmin site and used a Credit card to order and had the service right away.

You can also order from Gun Dog Supply and they send you a card in the mail that activates Birds Eye. I think you will still have to go to the Garmin site and enter a pin number . It just made more sence to go directly to the Garmin site and get it.

I have a 13-13 1\2 inch female I put both the dc 40 and TT on her and it works fine doesn't seem to bother her running at all. Only annoying thing is the 'extra' part of the collar that hangs down, think I'm going to use safety pins to rig it up,or could cut it to size but don't really want to do that in case I want to sell it one day.
good luck,

I think you are right. I just hope the price of the combo unit gets a little cheaper. The sport dog combo unit is $700 (1 collar). Each add on collar is $350 each.

So I got my collars and unit. First off, the thing is one of the coolest toys I've ever bought. I bought the birds eye subscription and it is well worth it. Very cool to see the where the dogs are in relation to fields, roads, streams, etc.

Now, I cannot for the life of me figure out how someone would get a TT shocker onto the DC40 strap. In order to have the antenna pointing up like it says too, the shocker would end up basically on the top of my dogs neck?? with the garmin antenna wire tired to the strap, i can only slide the shocker on so far??

My dogs have no problem carrying around both collars which is how I have been running them but the shocker and the DC40 will knock against each other. They pretty much line right up when two collars are used. I just don't want them banging against each other damaging either unit.

I cut the zip-tie and slide the tri-tronics up to about 3/8" from the dc-40,then put another zip-tie on the collar. When running the smaller dogs and pups, it doesn't seem to stretch their neck as much and is easier to collar up a dog.

Thanks, I'll have to try that. Just didn't want to hurt that antenna. Wish they would have had the antenna coming out the other side of the DC40. Could have nestled them right next to each other then. Having them on the same strap would solve my problem of the shocker and garmin banging against each other.

Still blows my mind that a $200 collar uses a wire tie to hold the antenna in close. Keep it simple I guess.
