Cold trailing dog

Post by Kwarrior »

I have a beagle that just turned a year old and the past month has been really mouthy and not producing rabbits. He started running at 6 months old and never did it in the beginning. I have been taking him out a lot more recently and it seems to be getting worse the more I take him. He also doesn't seem to be bringing them around like he did when he was younger.

He has pretty much only been solo'd since he was 6 months old besides a couple times lately he's been with some other dogs. But he doesn't want to pack up either just wants to do his own thing. I feel like if i could get him running with some good dogs it might help. But I'm not sure how to get him running with them.

He will bark and other beagles will go to him but not open up, like nothing is there.

Anyone ever hear of a hound getting worse as he got older? I got a 5 month old pup that I'm trying to train, but I'm not sure if I want her around him and picking up on that.

Any opinions appreciated thanks!

Its all up to you cause you are the one feeding and running it but it would not be staying at my house! I cant stand a colld trailer or a mouthy dog!

I hear ya, but that's not really an option as he is a family pet too. I know it's not the ideal situation but I have to work with what I have.

Take him some where there maybe isn't as many rabbits if he is still doing it then maybe he is ghost trailing in that case that is worse but since he is a pet the thing I would suggest would be get him fixed so don't have any pups unwanted and 2nd don't run him with your female could mess her up! hopefully you have a shock collar.. USE IT . go with the 1 mintue rule ,,, if you got other dogs who can run a rabbit and they dont bark within 1 minute of him barking ,shock him. 2 should be high enough. if he wont pack thats probably your fault, as you said you soloed him abunch ...beagles are pack dogs ,,if they wont pack bye bye .. if hes a pet ,,fine then let him be a pet ,,leave him home.
