i have seen alot of ways to clean rabbits and have tried most. i like to clean my rabbits while hunting, while the dogs are running a rabbit ill hang by tree limb skin and cut front legs off then debone rest.never ever have to open the abdomen, three rabbits like this weigh less than one whole. does any body else clean rabbits while hunting?

Lebro, we field gut them after the harvest but clean them at home.

never heard of that before. where do you put the meat?

we clean our rabbits at home....take a 5 gallon bucket of water...dip your rabbits in the water til their hair is soaked..hold by the back leg an strip fur up toward the head...you'll be hard pressed to have hair all over your meat

Underdog, thats exactly how we do it. After doing it this way i do not know why you would do it any other way. Especially if you kill a bunch of rabbits and want to do it quickly and efficently. Thanks for posting.

Thats how we clean em too. I'm Jon once you do this you'll never do it any other way. The time at home is minimal and you don't have to deal with ribs.

that is how we do it also. I started carrying a walmart sack with me in my hunting coat. When the dogs go off to hunt again, I clean the rabbit and then put the meat in the walmart sack. I forgot my walmart sack on thanksgiving day and killed three swampers. I will never forget the sack again. after carrying them heavy things, I will always remember.

I have been using this method about three yrs now and love it but the only different with me I keep the front legs they fry up just as well as the rest of the rabbit

Terry I keep the front legs too. I just wish cleaning squirrels was as fast. lol

joey gallon ziploc bag, heavy shopping bag or i was able to get a box of turkey bags for frozen turkeys.by the way dont clean the rabbit till you make sure the bag is in your coat that sucks. jon i have used this method it works great but i like to clean and debone while hunting. plus while rabbit is hanging in a tree your hands are free to pick up gun and shoot another when it runs by.

Folks, I hang them by their back legs from a tree AND I don't waste a thing as I eat the breast and all the rest! I even fry the rib section up nice and crisp and eat er up. My wife syas that when I get done with any piece of meat there's nothing left for the dogs to even chew on. If I'm killing it or buying it I'm eaten ALL of it.

I debone mine also. People who never eat wild game love them this way. It makes it easy to be sure that all the shot is out of the rabbit. I rarely miss any. One note you may want to check your game laws as far as cleaning your game before you are done hunting, some laws require game to be intact.

I saw one of my hunting buddies do it this way last year and it worked well. I still prefer the "Newfoundland" way but to each his own.
