I was curious what some of you guys do to enhance habitat for rabbits. I have built a few brush piles on our 35 acres which has helped but was wondering if there was more I could be doing. Most of our ground is hardwoods with a large creek and about 5 acres of pasture. What all have you tried?

Put out salt pellets or blocks.
Kill every hawk, owl, coyote and house cat with 5 miles of your place.

We went thru in winter and trimmed out crab apple trees and even topped some of them out. We selectively cut some garbage trees to make real big piles in a few areas. my brother brush hogged a few lanes here and there, but in short stretches. In one summer the rabbit population doubled for us. The piles got so grown up with weeds and grass a dog has to literally dig into jump the rabbits, but they are there!! It takes a lot of work, many chainsaw hours!!! We did most of our work when big snows were on and hunting was shut down. It has made couple areas spectacular for rabbits to raise little ones!! We also planted some winter peas in some of the paths and they did great in that as well.
Good luck!

Don't cut down all your junk trees for brush piles instead hinge cut them cut them so you can push them down but make sure they still have a big peice hooked to the stump that way the tree stays alive an keeps growing its almost like a living brush pile
