best bloodline for hunter who likes med/fast to fast dog?

Post by rabbitrookie »

I'm a cottontail hunter from Indiana. I like fast dogs that hunt close and fearlessly. What would be the best bloodline for me to invest in? What's your #1 pick?

Fast dogs that can control a rabbit to the gun with efficientcy require considerably more run time/solo time than most are able to provide. Just hunting a pack of fast dogs on the weekend isn't going to get it done.

Working the dogs individually throughout the week and culling out the overcompetetive ones is a must.

Most of the fast bloodlines have some good ones......it's just a matter of how many your going to have to cull through. Generally speaking, the faster the hounds the more culls.

I'm sure you could get 1,000 opinions if this post got legs, so here is mine. I seem to think that dogs from the old Northway lines and as mentioned the Turbo lines may give you what you are looking for. Alot of the guys I know have had good luck with the Patch lineage crossed with some of the Northway lines. Some of these crosses have produced some screamers that are fast to smoking with muscular builds. Also in the last few years dogs produced from some of the Awful Bawlin studs that have made it south have raised some eyebrows as fast dogs with gears.
