What do you think it takes for a dog to be considered finished? Or what are your thoughts on what a finished dog means??

it does not need any more training.or is already trained.or is as good as its going to get.

As deadeye said, the hound hunts as you would expect, handles as expected, knows the result of a rabbit chase is refuge or a dead rabbit. I would say completely exposed to all it requires to be a quality hound, IMO. Some folks expect less than others so that may be the gap of dissatisfaction.

one persons finished hound might not be a finished hound to you or i, also in my opinion i dont think a hound can ever stop learning!! When training, either it be running or gunning if the hound has rabbit up its nose in my opinion its learning!! Above are all good reasons why a hound is to be considered finished but the biggest for me would be will turn down off game! If a dog is finished at everything else but will still run a deer is it really finished?? JMO

About 3-3.5 years by then you normally have all you will get.
