Congrats to Grenwells Reggie, Better Beaglings top sire 2011 with 24 hounds placing, GB Shooter had 10, GB Butkus had 8, Ayers Geno had 4 , Nevels Bing had 3. My question is, should top sire be by sheer number of placed hounds or percentage of hounds placed to be a top sire? If Reggie had 24 hounds finish out of 100 thats 24pct obviously, well if Port City Prince had only 1 litter sired and 3 of 6 placed hes at 50pct placed, does that make him top sire? Should there be a certain number of hounds sired to be considered? Or is there? If my cheeseburger eatin butt had 100 kids and 15 of them won a race am i a producer of athletes? I hope not. I dont have stud dogs, or do i trial, im just curious and am not discrediting any hound.

To me it just proves that the female has something to do with it too !

Better beagling sire is all akc.If akc kept track of how many geno,reggie,or butkas pups were entered in a hunt ,then how many placed then you may get a better percent,but they do not.They only count the ones that place.Their is know way of finding out for example how many geno dogs were entered in a trial unless you go up to the guy in charge of the entry forms and ask.alot of people think since reggie has a lot of litters on the ground their is a lot of reggie dogs at akc trials,you be surprised their is not always that much.jmo.

Ok are you counting only akc or are you counting all formats also are you taking the pups away that may have died or went to home where they won't be trialed there would be almost no possible way to track it other than the way they are doing it!!

some good points that i did not even think of, but even if you are just doing akc hounds it may not be able to be tracked thinking more about it. i would imagine of course reggie has more hounds in the race than any other, but im sure some of those other hounds are stronger percentage wise. Also does this count just previous year hounds or any hound no matter how old?

In akc the top sire is only counted for the calender year and depending on the amount of dogs that place in that calender year!!

What about south woods spike tied for 2nd and only being bred 12 times and being dead for almost 2 years now..............

South woods I think that's more my question in all this. Are these top sires producers of One Hit Wonders or Field Champions?

I love how everyone blames the sire for pups not turning out!!! what about the pot licker females that kennel blind guys have that think they are great that get bred to a sire and when the pups don't turn out everyone debates why a dog is a top sire!!!

Take a look at Geno's percentage of FC'S and FLDWNR'S produced to how many times bred ,pretty amazing

I believe Mr. Monkman had said that FTCH Moneysunk Mountain Man had sired 13 litters and produced 52 FC's.Thats pretty good percentages.As far as female percentages go I would have to go with IFC Awful Bawlin Hoser.

Sparky, that's good stuff there, outstanding percentages there!!! Goes to prove not every great hound is a great producer of hounds. That to me is a Top Sire!!!
