Sat I was runnin hounds with a guy at a CA. He brought 2 dogs & I brought 3. We had good runnin all morning- went to another spot with more good runs. We were standing on a hillside with tall grass & brush, & no trees. They wer jupin rabbits every 100 yrds & runnin almost constantly. We watched the dogs run in & out of the brush. When they got close, they got in a dpwned tree with talgrass. We decided to pack up the dogs, & I only had 2 dogs! We searched all over, called, whistled. We couldn't hear her bell, & she didn;t respond to the e-collor. This dog disappeared right from underneath ouy eyes! Went back the next day with 3 more guys, put down 6 dogs, hopin she'd pack up. No luck. We did spot a coyote headin in the direction of the dogs. Still havn't found hide nor hair of her.

In August, I lost a dog that run off the place, Had a dog go down in Sept with 2 slipped discs in her back, & now this.

really hard to lose one when you are not being careless at all and think they are almost as safe as when on a lead. sorry for your luck and hope she turns up yet.

Ya, I hadn't run there before . but the guy I was with like to run there cuz it's safe for his dogs! It's just crazy. The only thing I can think of is she got off a split track & a coyote got her real quick & carried her off. She can't ring a bell or respond to an e-collor if she's dead. Thinkin about gettin a pistol to carry.

Sorry for your situation. I carry a Keltek PMR 30 22 mag, semi auto because of them. No more wondering if I see one, I shoot first and make sure they are heading the other way!!

I never used tracking collars until I ran hare, but now that I have them I use them all the time. They have helpled me find my dogs on more then one occasion running cotton tails as well as hare.
One time the reciever was out of calibration and did not work and I lost my dog for 3 days on Drummond Island. He was found by a Ranger in the general area we lost him in and returned to me safely. There is still hope your dog will be found. Good Luck
BTW I always check my collars before releasing them and will have my reciever callibrated every 4 or 5 years.
Keep us posted

That does suck Tim. Was it one of your pups or your old dog. If it was your old dog she may
have had a heart attach while running. If it was a coyote I would have thought there would have been some
noise and maybe some blood in the area.
Are there any roads near where you saw your dog last. Someone might have grabbed your dog. Make sure
to check the animal shelters and dog pounds.
Praying for you.
Anthony

I had some coyotes get after one a while back.found her the next day buried in a brush pile, where they couldn`t get to her.only way I found her was I happened to walk by the pile, and heard her squeeling very softly.had to tear the pile apart to get her out.Now if theres a coyote near she will come back to me,and refuse to hunt. Will not run without a tracker after that.Hope you get your dog back.

It was one of his younger hounds. Nice little hound and worked well with his other pup...
The area is pretty well WIDE OPEN.. I can't imagine how you would loose a dog and not see where it went off too.. Also, there is a LOT of people who go to the area right now fishing, bow hunting, bird hunting etc and houses (although sparsely placed) around the entire CA.. The fact the dog hasn't shown up yet leads me to believe something happened to her in the brush.. Its the only explanation... If she took off on a deer or whatever you could have watched her take off on it and seen it go for a mile.
Its just really confusing..

I had coyotes come in on a pack of 4 around dusk a few weeks ago.Two came in that night,I figured that the other two were goners. They came in the next morning, they were ok,one had a few bite marks. This is the time of the year that dogs get stolen sad but true.Hope you find your dog.

We could see the road & anyone on it, & they would have had to hike 2 0r 3 hundred yrds across the open field to get to the dogs. We found some muscrat holes & shined a light down in them but had no luck with that. I could see her get off on a split track, but she should have packed back up when she lost her rabbit- unless a yote got to her. I walked all over the actual area where they were runnin, lookin for clues to the scene of the crime. The undergrowth is so thick, that you'd almost have to be right on top of her to find her, or her remains. Like lookin for a needle in a haystack. That's why I was thinkin she got carried off. If a yote went after the pack, I'd think we woulda seen them scatter or raise some comotion. All we heard was choppin on rabbits.

A trackin collor would have been great, but with my luck, the dog wearin it wouldn't have been the one come up missing.
