Guys looking for some information on who has shed hunting dogs. Im looking for a shed( antler) hunting dog. Looking for anyone who might have some information on who has one or who as bought one. Guess Im looking for any replys on where you might be able to purchase one. I have looked at web-site on the internet and read alot of information. Thanks for any info.

I do have beagles and enjoy them but looking for something else to do with the kids and would enjoy a new sport as well.

Never heard of a shed hunting dog. This will be interesting to see what is out there.

Here is a contact but get ready to dig deep. $750 for pups up to $6000 for finished dogs. I looked into it after seeing it on a hunting show but little pricey for me.

a friend got one of these labs for his son to be a shed dog.
i have no clue what the $$$ was , but the pup can go get you a beer from the ice box.
see it with my own eyes. this one was very smart.
my first wife could not even get this one down....ROFL.

i had a beagle that would get u a beer or pop on camand and new the differents by smell
He would also,sit pretty shake high five laydown role over last but not least stroke a rabbit
I bet u could train a beagle to hunt anything it is a matter of how much time u spend on doing it

All the ones I have seen were labs. You train them the same as you would for retrieving any birds just use antlers in the training process. Start when they are pups, use antlers for chew toys, use small or broken antlers to start retrieval training.Then start hiding the antlers and reward the dog when he finds them. Like all dog training it is mostly exposure and repetition.

Prisons down here use Beagles to track and run runaway inmates. They especially like one with a squeeler mouth.

I know a guy that trained his English setter bird dog to find them.He takes the dog in the spring when he is mushroom hunting.He got him retreveing them as a pup and gave him treats.Now he turns him loose in the woods and he brings them back.He's trying to figure out how to get him to bark when he finds mushrooms now.

Try archerytalk.com I've seen several of those guys talking about training their labs for shed hunting. I don't if anyone actually trains them for sheds then sells them but some info on that website on shed dogs.

Ive seen where people train there labs for this, it would be very cool. Lee and Tiffany Lakosky, from the outdoor channel have a shed dog. If you have ever seen the pile of sheds they have in there house you would agree if they spent $6000 for that dog he has earned his keep!!! They literally have a 10' across 5' deep PILE of sheds in there living room!!! Let us know what you find out!

Look on the dokkyen kennel website they sell puppies and in the price ot covers a training your dog at a later date when iy is old enough to begin training they also sell finished dogs. That is were lee and tiffany got there dog from

The price on my chocolate labs just went up.I will have a liter in spring some time i will train one for this sound like fun.
