Remington 1100 20 guage

Post by mybeagles »

For those considering one I would highly recommend one. I was intent on getting a 28 guage but due to availability I let a local knowledgable gun shop talk me into the 20 guage. Have a couple months hunting with this one and its stood up to its reputation. First expensive shotgun I've owned and it appears this gun will serve me well for many years to come. Convenient having a 20 with both my boys using single 20's.

Any of you own one and care to add pro's / con's?

I will say this, I am a huge fan of Remington Shotguns. Great products. I own a Remington 870 20 guage youth model. Got the gun when I turned 12. I am 29 years old and its my go to gun. I am actually going to put it up for my first child's shotgun. I am gonna look for a over n under 20 guage. I hope to find one thats a Remington!!!

I have a friend that carries one and he don't miss. He uses # 6 shot.

I have owned several remington 1100's and several other gas operated semi-automatic shotguns. While I feel that remington makes a good shotgun, the gas operated shotguns I have owned have always failed to cycle shells at one time or another. You gotta keep em squeakly clean or they hang up. I prefer the old recoil spring action on the semi-autos. I have a browning A-5 light twenty that has not failed to cycle shells a single time in the 25 years I have owned it.

A couple years ago I carried a field grade 1100 in 20ga. It was as dependable as I could ask for and for a shotgun it was great to pack BUT once I got my g2 contender I will never look back at a long gun for bunnies!

They make any better triggers to put into the 1100's? It's the only thing I dislike about it, the trigger. Very rough not a clean break lots of travel.

Remington makes great guns. I have the 11-87 and love it, I also have an 870.

I bought a couple used. The 12 bore had 2 barrels, one 24" open for small game and a 30" full that won me a lot of meat. The Twenty was poor bluing and you had to keep it oiled after every outing an once a mouth whether you used it or not, but like I said, they were both used when I got them. never had a firing problem.
The Ithaca and the Franchi had me spoiled for sure, as they never rust.

11-87 youth model 21 and 26 in barrel I like them both but the 21 in barrel I have is awesome for rabbit hunting so short light and easy to carry. I rarely shoot a long gun but when I so it's what I carry, or Stevens 411a 20 gauge.
