why in the heck do dogs eat grass? they look like a bunch of billy goats and puke it up later most of the time

Dogs eat grass when they have stomach aches and such!!

Give 'em some canned green beans once a week and they will stop eating the grass so much. Some like the taste and some are lacking something in their feed that the grass / beans give.

I read an article about this the other day. It had a couple different reasons why dogs might do this. One was that they might just like the taste. Another was that the grass provides something they're lacking in their diet. I've heard people say before that it settles their stomach, the article said dogs lack the brain capacity to try to treat a stomach ache. So who knows why they do it. I have one female that eats grass almost every time out in the summer.

I'm gonna try that green bean idea. I have a female that usually has pretty decent hunt, decide that it was more important to stop and eat grass than search for a rabbit last weekend during a trial. I have noticed that she's been wanting to eat grass more and more lately.

What feed are you feeding them?

I have a Lab that has been eating grass since she was pup. In the summer, she eat grass almost evertime I let her out. I think she just likes the taste. My Mastiff gets fed the same food hsrdly ever eats grass. My hounds eat grass on occasion but not all the time.

My vet always said some like the taste. During the 1,000 year milenial reign of Christ, they will all eat grass.

I believe that grass this time of year has a high sugar content.I'm a bit of a "hayseed" And like to chew on a grass stem once in a while myself .seems to be sweeter this time of year , when it has a seed stalk on it.

sounds like it may be the time of year as mine have just started it in the last few weeks as well and I have not changed their feed. Im feeding pro plan shredded chicken and rice and have been for almost a year. my 10 month old pup has been on it since he was a puppy. thanks for all the input folks.

I've heard that if you feed them green beans, use the unsalted kind.

mine are so big they ben called a horse more then one time. hehehehehehe
