Nervous hound

Post by JacobMcClellan »

Have a dog that will only come to me won't come any closer than about 6 ft from anyone else. She won't let anyone else catch her but just wags her tail and looks at them from a little ways away. Does anyone know anything to help make her less skitish. Thanks any help appreciated.

Attention! Attention! Attention! And then, more attention! Pet her, talk to her, and give her treats as much as possible. Is she the only hound you have?

if she will come to you with no problems and be PDQ about it. and she is a outstanding dog.
I would tell my friends not to call her or try to handle her.

if she is not a outstanding dog in your eyes. well... then that's a decision you have to make , you feed her.

to answer your question.
lots of TLC and time around strangers. some of them never come out of it.
and some of it depends on why is she shy.
did it just pop up all the sudden or was it born that way.

I seen on here , to tie it out on a 2 foot chain and let strangers go up and pet it .
never needed to try it my self. so I don't know if it works.

Good runn'in to ya

I worry about that with my beagle. She is a great house dog, burns a rabbit, not quite a year old yet but other than myself, wife and kids there are only a couple of people she will go up to. I blame this on our 3 yo lab that goes nuts on anyone that's stops over or walks by the house. When we brought her home at 8 wks old I think the labs behavior scared her from everyone else.

Do you mind telling what the dog is bred like? I've never owned one, but have heard that the Branko's Lumber Jack bred dogs ,tend to be a bit shy acting. One guy described them as " quire acting "
