I don't think there is an average foot speed, it just depends on what they are crossed with.
I have seen them from medium to upper meduim to fast.
There are a few in NC that are pretty footy, one of them I had here and still have her littermate sister.
She is out of Shooter and Nemasket Big Springs, I think that cross and the one with Dinah produced
dogs with pretty good foot speed.

I have a couple here...one directly out of Shooter and one out of Shooter's littermate Watson and they are the most reliable hounds I have ever owned...if you are thinking about getting one you probably won't regret it!!

I may get rid of 1 or 2 of mine in the near future, I have 4 from the same litter don't think I need all 4 of them.

I have owned/own a few, been around others under the gun, and judged several. I agree that the female side seems to determine foot speed. I judged FC Green Bay Holly Hunter and she absolutely crushed the field with score from the front...she was in a zone and left very little for the rest. I also judged FC Buckshot (can't remember his full name) the same weekend and he won a completely different way and that was by walking the checks out from the inside out and cutting the pack from the center. Both are out of Shooter....

The one I have is one of the only dogs I have owned that can consistently lock onto a track and own it....I watched another Shooter hound out of Wiley never slow down when a rabbit doubled back....he was so locked and focused that he made it look easy.

One thing every Shooter dog that I have seen is personality!! They can drive you nuts with their manners...scratching at the door wanting out is a big one (shooter does this as well). As much as you hate them one minute, you love them the next.

I own two directly off of him, two of the best I could ever hope to own, for my needs. Blue collar, hard working, line running, good hunt, accurate mouth, big nose, and the smoothest track hounds I have ever seen. Sounds like a reach on the description, but they really, really suit me! Upper medium speed with all the tools bring a rabbit back to the gun. Bottom line, just good ole hounds in my eyes.

good luck!!

I have been in the bird competition world ever since I remember. How did I know that Butkus will be a good dog at one year old? Not because I have beagling experience, but because I knew that shooter(best) x wiley (best) = (butkus/jifka)best. I knew that I wanted a nice pup out of shooter from the best female. Luckly, Butkus or Jifka was available, I picked Jifka. She is one of a life time dog and will always be missed and remembered. Right before she was killed by wolve, she ran the hare as if shey was sight chasing the whole time without over running. Shooter dogs are not perfect. They are all around. Trackstar, you are very lucky that you live not too far from field champion butkus, paw king, deano and eli. Any of these stud have shooter's blood. Go see them and judge them yourself. I have some knowledge of shooter from owning butkus littermate Jifka, paw king's littermate remi, eli's littermate johna and sire max, and a litter out of remi/deano. If you want to know more, pm me privately.

She will die here littlewoody, sorry.

She will forever be my measuring stick. May never get a pup out of her, but saw what I truly wanted in a hound thru her.

She is a special hound from a special kennel, long live Green Bay, keep putting out winners Joe!!!

Ps: I ran her this am for 3 hours of pounding running, she is as good as I ever hope to own. At 7 years old, she will still go ALL day!!
Blessed to own her!!!

Trackstar,
Greenbay got two pups out of deano/remi, three pups out of max/remi, and three pups out of max/foxy. If they are similar to my, they should be very nice to own. If I were you, I would go straight to the source. They will not be cheap, but worth every penny you spend. You won't go wrong if they are similar to my. Good luck.

my dog out ofshooter and dinha used too run rabbits down and catch them in his younger days. he is getting to be a old man but i will still drop him with anything and he will still check dogs to death... ran him last week in the heat for 6 hours stright

the shooter and dinha cross was the best cross out of shooter producing more fc than anyother cross with more nose ,and speed than most the others...
