When you guys are gun hunting, how do you position yourself best? I tend to not stay in one spot where the dogs jumped the rabbit and kinda guess where it is either heading or coming back. I look for spots like the edge of a field, one side of a large brush pile or around an obstacle, like a pond.. etc. Or i go for a close fence row thinking the rabbit will pull a straight line on it.


Sometimes I get burned and the rabbit goes exactly where it was jumped but usually the rabbit goes several yards away from the original jump on the way back.. I used to try to cut the rabbit off depending where the dogs make a turn and how far out they are but now I rarely do that.

I think staying where the rabbit is jumped is the best bet.they usually circle close to that area.

On a hill or rise where I can see it coming. I prefer a old tree stand lol

90% of the time the rabbit will come within gun range of where it was jumped.

I don't think 90% is right I think it's more like 90.1 % ;-) , Stay near jump spot or bed .

I stick at the jump spot, after the first circle I may move to try and get in a better position. I like to try and get elevated, unless the cover keeps me low. I never shoot the first time I see he rabbit.

If I didn't shoot it after the first circle, I would never shoot a rabbit! My dogs barely give me a first shot!

I just shoot in a circle and hope for the best !

Same here,after all part of the fun is listening to the dogs work.
