Just read a email that all clubs received. We are getting the hound of the year run off back for 2014. All the info is in the Dec. News letter. Not sure how all you ladies and Men fell about it but I"m pretty excited. To get back to show casing are top 10 dogs off in each class. I also believe this will help the numbers at are club hunts.

The ten hounds in each class with the highest Hound of the Year Point totals will be invited to the Hound of the Year Runoff. In the event that two or more hounds are tied for tenth place, then the tied hounds will all be invited. EXAMPLE: 2 hounds are tied for 3rd place in the points. Hounds invited to the Run-Off would be 1-2-3-3-4-5-6-7-8-9. If the tied hounds were the 10th place hounds, Hounds 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-10 would be invited.
The winner of the Runoff for each class will be the Hound of the Year for that class
The hound that finishes second in the Runoff will be the Reserve Hound of the Year.
The runoff will be conducted by the Executive Board under regular ARHA rules with two exceptions. The running time for each cast may be extended as necessary to insure that the hounds have a full twenty (20) minutes in each cast of actively running a rabbit. Once the judges determine that a rabbit has been produced, the time keeping will commence on the twenty (20) minute running time. The cast will run for the full running time according to the rules, but if at the end of the normal time, hounds have not had a full twenty (20) minutes of actively running a rabbit, the cast time will be extended as necessary. If the cast ends in a tie, the tie breaker rules for the final cast will be used. If this does not break the tie, the tied hounds will run 15 minutes longer. This will continue until the tie is broke. The purpose of this rule modification is to make sure that our Hound of the Year is not selected on Hunting and Handling and to insure that all the hounds have an equal chance to win. If any qualified hound is absent at the start time of the Runoff, the Runoff will proceed without them. No lower placing hounds will be moved up to take that slot.
The Chairman of the Watchdog Committee will be the Master of Hounds. If he/she cannot be Master of Hounds, the Executive Board will appoint one. All protests involving the Runoff will be handled under the normal procedures of the World hunt.
The judges for the Runoff will be selected by the Executive Board. There will be 7 pairs of judges. They will be drawn out as in a normal hunt.
If a hound qualifies for the runoff in one class, but has moved up to another class during the year, he/she is still eligible to compete in the runoff for the class in which he/she qualified. Example: a hound finishes the year in seventh place in Open Class, but has already moved up to Champion Class in October. That hound would still be eligible to compete in the Open Class Runoff. If a hound should qualify for the Runoff in more than one class, the hound’s owner may choose in which class to compete in the runoff. The hound may not compete in more than one class at the Runoff. In this situation, the 11th place hound in the Hound of the Year standings would then be invited to the Runoff to fill the vacated spot in the class not chosen.
A hound that is on suspension for running off-game three times or whose owner (either an individual or kennel) is banned from ARHA competition at the end of the year of the runoff is ineligible to compete in the runoff, even if the hound has been transferred to a new owner after the infraction occurred which caused the banning.
During the year, the hound owner/handler cannot scratch his/her hound in the final cast of a hunt unless it is life threatening to the hound. The Judge must agree and the club must furnish this information with the hunt results. If it is found that the hound was scratched by the owner so they would not win the cast, the hound will have the hound of the year points it would have received if it had won the hunt subtracted from its Hound of the Year total. This also applies if the owner/handlers hound wins the final cast and refuses to sign the score card. EXAMPLE: There are 30 hounds entered in the open class. The owner/handler scratches his/her hound in the final cast. The hound will have 30 points subtracted from the Hound of the Year Points it has.
The Executive Board reserves the right to correct any loop hole an individual finds to manipulate the Run-Off system immediately!

I am very excited about this. It is great to have this to run for throughout the year. I think this will definitely bring the numbers up at club hunt if for nothing else it gives you a reason to run grands at a club hunt. Great move Little Pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

So glad to see them bring the run off back and like the rule that keeps guys from scratching dogs out of a win. Now if I just had a dog good enough to make it into the run off! Will be fun trying to make it though.

Now if they would just do something about the worthless eight dollar measurement cards they would really have their sh!t together wouldn't they!!!!

the cards are optional and just speaking for myself its worth the $8 to not have to drag my dogs out before every hunt to have them pre measured, it also gives me more time to eat another plate of breakfast LOL

Add an $8 measure card and still $10 cheaper than the cheapest AKC papers you can get :shock:
