WHY SO MEANY MEDIUM SPEED FIELD CHAMPIONS

Post by dhoundman »

Every where i look thier are more medium speed hounds out thier for sale then ever before ? OUT OF FAST FIELD CHAMPIONS
Champions like Green Bay Butkus and Green Bay walk On , No Him By Ohio Reggie , Pinnacle Hill Sport , Riley Rollen Trails and a lot of other field champions like Pinnicall Hill Sport are producing MEDIUM SPEED PUPPIES
Only once i see producing fast pupps are Green Wells Reggie and the cross out of Awfull Bawling Viagra
Or could it be that people are breeding the wrong female to really good males ? YOU TELL ME :eyes:
GUYS I THINK WE ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG AND IF SO WE BETTER FIX IT AND QUICK

THE ANSWER IS BECAUSE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE RUNNING THE OFF SPRING ARE DOING A LOT OF SOLO TIME ON THEM AND THE OFF SPRING ARE SMART ENOUGH TO JUST RUN AS FAST AS THE RABBIT CAN BE RUN.
THE F.C. OFF SPRING MUST BE VERY SMART BECAUSE YOU CAN HELP A YOUNG HOUND LEARN HOW TO JUMP AND YOU CAN PUT OLD DOGS WITH THEM TO LEARN THE TRICKS ( OR JUST LET THE YOUNG HOUND LEARN IT ON HIS OWNE) AND YOU CAN EVEN TEACH THEM WHAT TO RUN (SOME TIMES) BUT YOU CAN NOT TEACH SPEED IT IS IN THEM AND AS THEY AGE THEY CONTROLE JUST HOW FAST TO GO ACCORDING TO THE SENTING OF THE RABBIT.
SO ALL OF YOU THAT THOUGHT I WAS COME DOWN ON F.C. BEAGLES
THINK AGAIN :) IN THE 28 YEARS OF RUNNING AND TRIALING I HAVE SEEN THE MID-WEST TRIALS DO MORE TO IMPROVE THE BREED THEN ANY OF US OLD TIME (RABBIT HUNTERS) (MEAT HUNTER) (RABBIT SLAYERS) AND WHAT EVER ELSE YOU CALL YOUR SELVES. NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU (RABBIT HUNTERS) :D CAUSE WITH OUT YOU NO ONE WOULD NOW HOW REALLY GOOD TRIAL DOGS REALLY ARE
BUT THE DOGS THAT ARE BEING TRIALED BRING THE CREAM TO THE TOP (WHY YOU SAY) CAUSE THEY ARE CRAZY ENOUGH TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME AND MONEY BREEDING AND RUNNIG FOR HRS AT A TIME JUST LOOKING FOR A PERFECT DOG (THIER IS NO SUCH THING) AND THEN WHAT THEY (FIELD TRIALERS) THINK IS NOT GOING TO MAKE IN THE TRIALS THEY SELL TO THE RABBIT HUNTER WHO TAKES AND REALLY PUTS THE DOG TO THE TEST BY KILLING RABBITS OVER THEM.
SO YOU SEE IT ALL WORKS TOGETHER TO MAKE A BETTER BEAGLE FOR HUNTING WITH.

I think you have the words "fast" and "rough" mixed up. When you sort that out you will have your answer

jmo but i feel like males are more competitive anyway and naturaly step it up in competition type situations some do get rough and swing more when there are more of that type of dog on the ground and the ones that dont prob wont show up in the hunt results very often.for example my male chasteens tom terrific is alibaba, primetime, kingwood etc and hes 13 in now he was ran with fast leggy dogs most of his life so he learned to swing because he had to hes a lprch(3 wins) and reserve state ch placed 4th in little world and 2 other big 5 hunts in lp but his pups are line control inside out checkdogs and most are about 7 on speed why? because his mom was more pp style and i think his mothers dna runs strong in his pups.jessie scrogham has told me to inbreed him to his daughter to double his traits if i want to reproduce him.this man is a well of information and i wish he would post his thoughts on this subject its alot deeper than just throwing 2 dogs in a pen and getting what you want that is for sure.im no expert just felt like rambling a little

Well at least some one is paying atteneion to what is being sayed. Yes speed and roughness are two different things.
One of the studs dogs i pionted out i have owned a pup from one and he had speed with controle (not rough in any way) :hammer:
Bottom line when you get a great huond you will now what i mean and you will not care what any body post on this board.
MOST INPORTANT THING I LEARNED IS WHEN YOU GET THE SECOND ONE YOU WILL NOT SELL HIM EVER FOR NO AMOUNT OF MONEY. MAN WAS I STUPID FOR SELLING MINE AND BOY DO I EVER MISS HIM. (IN MEMORY OF A GREAT LITTLE DOG TWISTER)
But right now all i have is some realy good little girls that have ran a rabbit down on the hotest day in July. So now I just have three little male pups a couple months old and have to wait and see what they can do. ;)
In the mean while keep breeding those F.C. Champing for eveything they are worth. :D

Very interesting that you bring up speed this time of year. With all the snow and ice on the ground it was a real struggle for any dog to even move a track two weeks ago at Straights of Mackinaw trial and little males couldn't do much at Western Kentucky.

Usually about mid march when breeding starts up the board lights up with all the "fastest dog" chat. Your 3 months early ...lol

JMO,I think its nice to have a FC,but we as rabbit hunters have to get more real about a FC as being a rabbit dog.I know I ve been disappointed to see some as rabbit dogs.I would say its getting more and more people out there that don't look at a fc being a good all around rabbit dog.I do think there should be another trial just on FC.To take the FC out rabbit hunting for 4,6hr days in a week in rabbit hunting(no e collar at all) with 5 more FC and 5 different rabbit hunters. These 5 different men an women then would pick out the true all around rabbit dog to be name.RABBIT HOUND FC.The way it is now when you say FC a lot of rabbit hunters would say SO.There everywere.I mean I think you have a good dog in running the rabbit but there is something eles in running the rabbit.Take these FC and put them at there test.Bang, now find me another one?

Why I say no e collar. You cannot used one in a trial. To better the breed in this sport that we love so much.We all have to get more real about a Rabbit Dog.THERE SOMETHING ELES BESISE RUNNING ONE TO BEING A RABBIT DOG.

Yep. That's the thought process of what is now called Traditional Brace had 60- 70 years ago. Look what their sport has become. Those dogs used to be able to hunt and trial. Not any more.

Even now I see the dogs going in the wrong direction. Though there are still tons of dogs in AKC spo and gundog brace that are truly fine trialing and hunting dogs, there are also an increasingly number of dogs that are lacking hunt in a big way.

It's not all about the track unless you are going to jump every rabbit for them.

Speed has nothing to do with hunt. I've seen dogs of all different speeds that have little to no hunt. I was at a LPH Trial once, at every long check, several of the dogs would quit and head to the garbage cans. One of those garbage can searchers placed second in the Trial.

If a trailer is not an avid hunter, why breed for a trait that is not needed to win a Trial. If they hunt and Trial then they probably breed for the traits they want in a hunting dog for his area as well as traits to compete in his chosen trial format.

A fast dog with good brakes, when the rabbit turns (for his legs and mouth). That might equal medium speed when you're listening from the tailgate?????????
