Video of January Running

Post by JCM »

This is a video of some of our recent running. This was filmed in a thick clearcut full of briars which makes it a little tough to see the dogs sometimes. If a dog made a wrong turn they could get left out in a hurry too.

That is Logan Elm Dixie. She is out of Logan Elm Red Buddy and we just got her back after some time in Grayson, KY with John Sexton.

I would say our dogs are medium fast. We run mostly ARHA Little Pack with an occasional Midwest trial. The speed in the video is slower but I think it is just because at this spot they have to fight so hard to get through the cover.

You can tell that the cover is definitely knocking some foot off of the dogs. If your dog can run in clear cuts they can run in any thing...it is ruff ruff ruff.

Thank you very much for watching and the comments!

I think the thick briers in the clearcuts affect dog speed in this video much the same way that deep snow will change the speed of the dogs in Keith's, Marty's, and other videos on the Hunted Hare Board (http://norwester.proboards.com/). The dogs would love to be hammering the track but the physical challenge is so tough that they can only run as fast as they can physically travel.

As far as speed, there are faster dogs. We always look for running the rabbit first. I hate dogs that are always on the outside waiting to cut the pack and dogs that keep racing to the front only to blow up the race. I want the dogs running fast enough to make the other dogs scramble to stay in the race. It doesn't always happen, but that's what I am after.
