How many of you all have ever raised a litter and had all the same sex? We just had a litter and all 8 of them were males. Is that the stud dog throwing this or what? Everyone I have talked to here recently said they have never had that happen before.

I got a male that has thrown about 60 % females. That's including two liters of 6 that where all males. Those two liters were by two different females. They were brought to my house and bred the first day they were there, but they never stood again. They were at the end of their cycle I assume so I somewhat believe in that old wives tale. If it simply comes down to math and the male produces equal female and male sperm, the probability of all the pups being the same sex in a liter of 8 would be 2:256

I have had it happen a couple times. I think you will hear about 1000 different reasons for it...it's the male...it's the female...it's the alignment of the planets...list goes on. Maybe there is a resonable explanation, I don't know or even worry myself about it. Just remember, 8 live healthy male pups, is a whole lot better than 4 or 5 dead female pups.

Males carry Y chromosome... (YX). Females carry X chromosome (XX). Y chromosome determines sex, therefore is determined by male

I have seen it on a few occassions. I have tried the "old wives tales" with NO correlation in pup sex. JMO.

I had a female that raised a whole litter of Males last summer. 7 I think. I gave them all away. I was only keeping females. That's how my luck runs!

Males determine sex and that's true in animals, chickens and humans.
