Augerhead, you said exactly what I believe from running cottontails for decades with beagles. I had an IFC bred bitch here a few weeks back that ran as you described. She was right with my other three dogs. Usually she was the second to open on a check. Never got a check, and if I picked up the others to let her solo she wouldn't run it a hundred yards before she quit and came back to my feet.

It's not about taking the high ground or being better than everyone else. It's about using a training tool that's proved to be effective for some of us to better our packs. I certainly don't think it's a chest pounding thing, just a preference. If anyone can get all the results they want and prefer pack only that's what they should do.
