I am finally about ready to fence in my starting pen. I will be fencing in roughly 15 acres. I have had several people tell me to go with the galvanized wire over the coated that it will last longer. Cant quite wrap my head around that one so figured I would ask someone who has already done it. I am in central Kentucky so we do get snow for a few months.

I started out with 20 ga. "coated" wire. It lasted about 4 yrs.
Crumbles when you squeeze it. Always repairing holes.
Now I have 17 ga. galvanized, its been up 5 1/2 yrs and looks great!

I totally agree with Lone Pines on this. I had to replace all my coated fence within two years. The rabbits and dogs loved chewing on the coated fence and would chew holes right through it.

I built my pen 17 years ago using galvinized wire. I have replaced a few areas but only because of trees falling and collapsing the fence. 85% of my original fence is still intact.

If galvanized is working well for you guys in Michigan it will work here in Kentucky for sure. I am going to go with the Red Brand 17ga. One of the local coops I deal with frequently quoted me $135 roll. Everywhere else I have found it is a few dollars more.
