i always felt like if you or your dog was good enough others would be doing your bragging for you. There are several people who can not make a post on a subject like this without pumping their own dogs. When i see this i think dog jockey not houndsman. I heard that story before about a dog that could drive a rabbit back through a pack and one about another dog who could run head up 15 ft or better off the line.( both at trial for parade of champions) Funny thing is both had the chance to back thier stories that day but neither would show their dogs they just wanted to talk about them.

Most dominating performance I ve seen is.When a person can take his dog and be happy with what it doing good or bad. I ve seen to many people that you could give them the best dog out there and they still would not be happy with the dog. They will find something wrong with the dog.

AND that is the reason for beagling being a matter of opinion, period. One person's trash is another man's treasure with the judge being the eye of the beholder. I've yet to witness any perfect hound and one that dominates each and every time out or consistently. They are dogs and like people they all have faults and I have seen my own be worth a million bucks one time out and the next day I'd have pay someone that much to take it off my hands.

How many of these dominators are the total package? By that I mean how many hunt and jump rabbits like they can run them? I've seen plenty of dogs dominate once the rabbit is up just have seen very few dominate every aspect. IMO if they ain't doing it all they ain't dominated anything.

" Every dog has it's day" and if I'm not mistaken, Casey was just asking about that day.

The runs I witnessed were all day 2 or 3 series, usually if they are in a winners pack in Mid West they havent been swinging and swarping all day `and deserve to be there .

My Beagles,
This is from Don Smith who judged the 13" male class that day. Tyke was an extremely nice hound that day, but the dog that won the trial which belonged to Jim Latimer was the better dog in both of our opinions. The other judge may have apologized to you and that's on him, but I know we picked the best dog that day. I am taking nothing away from Tyke. As I stated earlier, he was a very good running hound and his owner, Ron Conroe, is a very fine gentlemen. I judged Tyke at South Kentucky and he put on an unbelievable performance that day, and won the trial. My Beagles, you said that everyone including the judges knew he won the trial, but that is your opinion. I was on horseback and was able to stay right with the dogs and see what was going on. Anyone who knows me knows that I do not like a swinging, cutting dog. Whether it's a FC or not, I take nothing away from the dog. I judge them based on what they do that day. The hound that won the trial that day deserved to win, otherwise he wouldn't have won. My Beagles, you also stated that the truth comes out in time. Well, I am here telling you that Tyke is one heck of a hound, but from what I saw that day in Western Ky, the other dog was just a little bit better. It was not a mistake the way the dogs were placed. In fact, they placed themselves. Take Care,
Don Smith

Don,

I was standing there when you apologize to Ron. Ron was very gracious about it and told you that you didn't need to apologize if you felt like you picked the right dog. I was also standing there when the other handlers shook Ron's hand after the field trial and commented about how dominating is dog was before the results were called off.

To this day that was the most dominating performance I've seen in a Midwest trial. There were several 10 minutes periods Where no other dog could get in front of Tyke. Tyke was not a perfect dog but that day he put on an epic performance.

In little pack I've seen a few but its been several years. When Dirt Road Zipper was a champion he put on a show in a cast at the world hunt. Daryl Stacy had a red male that gutted a pack in the opens not the same year and another one was the last year my Pete dog was an open the score was 190,50,25,0,0. Best he ever looked.

Mybeagles, Question: Were you running after the dogs that day to see so much or was the rabbit running in an open field or something? I wasn't there , but after 20 years of judging, I can't remember staying up with a driving pack for a full 10 minutes without losing sight in the Mid-West, yet you saw several 10 minute stretches standing in the gallery. Maybe the Mid-West should just let you stand in the gallery and judge.
