This reminds me of a story Willis McWilliams up in Oklahoma used to tell. It was about one particular race in field trial with real fast dogs. At one point the hounds crossed the road in a dead run giving tongue. The owner of one of the dogs came up and asked if his dog was leading the pack. Willis said, "yes he is, he was the first dog to cross the road and he was at a run."

The owner asked, "Did you see the rabbit? How close was he to the rabbit?"

Willis answered, "He was pretty close, the rabbit was running third"
