What does it cost?

I run and condition dogs for people. I have been told I charge too much, and I have been told I don't charge enough. Most of the time I run 7 days a week. I don't take more than 4 dogs to run a month so as to give them all justice. I run them long and hard. I run in some big pens and also have 6,500 acres I run. This is what it cost me to run one dog one month. 75.00 PEN FEE 15.00 DOG FOOD 30.00 GAS. I CHARGE 200.00 a month so I might make 75.00 to feed, clean its kennel haul, handle and run a dog for one month.I don't think that's too much.

Sounds like a fair deal to me. The problem is that both beagles and beaglers are cheap. Lots more money in other breeds.

You did get me thinking, because I'm a numbers guy.....

Monthly
Gas $200 (for running and work parties at the beagle club.)
Food $60 / 3 dogs

If I had one it would cost me $220/month
Two run $140/month each
Three are $86.66/month each

Hours spent on beagles per month (off season)

40

Hours running per month

30 (2 hours after work 3 days a week)

Plus the fact I have to here every day to make sure of food and water etc.

Sounds like you could charge a bit more for your time.

I guess the real question revolves around supply and demand. Do you have to turn people away, or do you have lots of openings? Time of year, maybe charge more the two months prior to gun season.

Good luck.
Brian

I think that sounds like a fair price as long as my dog/dogs are taken care of and ran hard. What else can you ask for??

Just for fun...

My retriever pro charges $800 a month.
You supply food. Dogs get ran on 2 maybe 3 AKC field trial/hunt test setups a day (20 minutes per dog tops).
Dogs live in outside 10 x 10 kennels with plastic barrel house. A hose n go deal.
You supply vet, de wormer, heart worm, and flea n tick.

Crazy lol no wonder I love my beagles more than my labrador!

75.00 of my cost is pen fees. I have 3 large pens I run, but I have to pay 5.00 per dog to run. I try to run outside dogs 15 days a month, and I solo them a little on the outside. I am retired and run 7 days or nights a week. I don't make much money but I promise you get your moneys worth. Some people charge more, some can charge less.

Fair price if food and gas keeps going up you may want to raise the price.

If you're turning dogs away, then demand > supply for your services; raise the price.

Perfectly reasonable in my opinion! I would have no problem paying 200 a month for my dog to be pounded! But as long as I can do it myself there's no way that will happen lol

If you can't run your dogs, you don't need dogs.
